p.1 #1 · Tips and Tricks for the Fujifilm cameras

I've been enjoying shooting with the X100VI for a few days and learned a few tricks that really helped me streamline operation and improved my shooting. If you know some tips or tricks on the menu, please post it here:

Here are two I learned:

1) You can set up a custom button for “View Mode Settings” and choose which settings to toggle, instead of cycling through the four default options. Press and hold the Q button while in View Mode Settings to select your preferred options. I chose to toggle between LCD only and Viewfinder + Eye sensor. This setup works great for those who prefer to shoot with the LCD off and only activate the viewfinder when detected by the eye.

2) Quick format: Turn the camera on and press and hold the Drive/Delete button and the rear dial button simultaneously for about a second. The format option will appear.

Note that Rico's excellent X100 VI book is just out.

Another tip: press and hold the DISP button to see the function button customization (for review and to change).

My biggest QoL was to put the custom functions on Fn1 since rotating the command ring only cycles through the built in film sims. Putting the C settings on Fn1 allows for fast selection of custom loaded film sims.

Yes, that's a great tip.

Another tip is to press and hold the Q button. This will allow you to customize the Q menu settings.

Unrelated to the X100VI, the X-T5 also has a quick format trick:

Press and hold the Delete button (trashcan icon) and the rear dial button simultaneously for about a second.

It's wild how many variations exist across Fuji bodies. The GFX you have to hold trash for 3 seconds, and then click into the wheel.

That you can't add formatting to My Menu is just...what?!

That's a difference between Leica and Fuji. Leica provides very similar software and button functionality across their cameras of the same generation.

Part of the problem with Fuji, as you're seeing, is when they don't give the same physical controls across similar bodies (no rear wheel click on X100 for no good reason).

Here is one I use very often during sunny days. Hold the „viewfinder“ lever at the front for 2-3 seconds to turn on/off the ND filter.

I personally prefer to set the button in the middle of the lever to ND as it's much faster in the flow of things than waiting for the lever.

Given that the strength of the Fuji JPEGs don't unlock until DR400 (ISO 500ish) using the ND becomes almost necessary for any outdoor midday scene.

I thought that was for weather resistance

There was a rumour that not having the clickable wheel on the X-H2S improved weather resistance - as far as I know FujiFilm haven't published anything either way.
