p.1 #1 · Breiðamerkurjökull

Congratulations to Rajan Parrikar for winning Feature Thread of the Week with 13 votes - View Previous Winners

Breiðamerkurjökull, a glacial tongue of Vatnajökull in South Iceland, lies etched into the landscape, shaped by centuries of ice and time. From the air, its colours dance as they shift with the low winter’s sun and the viewer’s perspective.

From my blog post.

Jung,

Those 1st and 4th images are so amazing with the warm light touching the cool glacier. Love these.

Love the textures here, Rajan, especially the first with its crumbling cobblestone look about it.

Bob and Douglas: Thank you.

Douglas: "cobblestone" - why didn't I think of that?

Amigo Dan,

I miss your comments, too, and the joy you brought to them. But I retain all those memories of you expressing delight.

Images 1, 4 and 6 for me. Part of the fun on 1 and 4 is they are completely devoid of any clue as to scale. You tell me they are ice flow patterns but I can easily image them as photomicrographs of an interesting material.

As for number 6, B&W has always been my jam, and it works extremely well for concentrating the views attention on textures in the landscape. Again, scale is a bit nebulous on first look, although a closer examination reveals the distant horizon. Most excellent.

Thank you to each and every one of you.

Taperwing: Yes, the images your cite can well serve as abstracts also. In the final black & white, for those who know the location, the 'pool' seen in the distance of the world-famous glacial lagoon Jökulsárlón, and we are looking directly south towards the N Atlantic Ocean beyond.
