1. It shows the flash works well for close-ish pics. (But will not have much range)
B. A bunch of youtube reviews claim that the camera's minimum focus distance is six feet, and anything closer will be blurry. My arm is not six feet long...
On the firmware issue: the newest firmwear only came out on Dec 5th, so you def need to update. It will NOT read or use the filter file until it has the new firmware update.
I’d suggest putting the new firmware .bin on the SD with no filter file. Run the cam through the firmware update routine: hold the shutter button for @3 sec until it beeps and the button glows red and green. Once that’s done, turn the cam off. Plug it into the computer and then drop the filter file into the SDs root directory. When you turn the cam back on, it should use the filter.
Pro tip that I had posted early on: you can create a folder on the SD. I named mine BIN. Then I dropped the 3 Camp Snap .bin files in there, as well as the new .flt files. When you want to change a sim or filter, just copy-drag the file into the root of the SD card. (hold Alt/Opt while dragging)

I did that, but when I turn on the camera there is no update.
Here is my root directory:
Am I meant to turn the camera on while it is still plugged into the computer? I have been unplugging after loading the BIN file, then turning it on.
Are you holding the shutter button for about 3 seconds - until you get a sound that is different from the normal shutter sound, and then the shutter button turns red/green for about 10 sec? (Longer than a film sim update!)

1. Camera is off. I attach it to my computer.
2. I import the bin file to the root directory.
3. I unplug the camera.
4. I turn on the camera by holding the shutter button down - this takes about three seconds.
- this is when it should update by flashing red/green but it does not do that. It just turns on, shows the battery level then the number of pics taken.
Try holding the shutter button longer - just mash it until it goes into the update mode. Could be you’re giving up before it’s ready to go? The firmware definitely took longer to start and a lot longer to finish compared to the film sim updates
You also live within walking (biking) distance of the CS home office. Go there and complain! Haha
Same basic specs. (Though nowhere do they say anything about the lens fov, shutter speeds or f-stop.)
It’s more expensive at $85 US. (But you get a hand strap and the ability to change colors (for $9 each))
Interesting that there seems to be a niche market here.
I've highlighted the differences:
Five built-in filters
- Wrist-strap included
- Pre-installed 8GB SD card
- On/off button independent from capture button
On/off button is nice.
Built in filters are nice
Wrist strap? Nice - weird Camp Snap does not include one
8GB card - nice.
But I already have a Leica Camp Snap, and got it for about $35 thanks to a 40% off sale. The biggest deal would be if the sensor on this rival is the same/better/worse. The Camp Snap's sensor has changed for the better from the original version.
