X-e4 has a movable screen which tempted me over the 3, but it has that odd behaviour where if you hinge it up too far the image goes upside down, intended for selfies but I gather it changes too early so limiting usefulness for low angle shots?

The XH1 seems like a rare, used Fuji in that its not crazy priced due to demand.
Its history probably explains that. Very shortly after it was introduced with a fair amount of fanfare, Fujifilm introduced a new XT model that was arguably better in several ways, including using a newer sensor. The sales of the XH1 quickly drove off the cliff, and before long Fujifilm basically liquidated the existing supply at very low prices.
For those who liked the camera, that was a double-edged sword. On one hand, there was disappointment in the outcome for the camera. On the other hand, a lot of them were sold at the clearance price.
So, unlike with some other Fujifilm products, there was never a shortage of XH1 bodies — in fact, there was a surplus!
As you've discovered, prices for used Fuji bodies have increased substantially. Here's my suggestion. Be patient and wait for the X-M5.
I'm guessing the lack of the viewfinder makes you consider a vlogger's camera. I understand the sentiment. However, I have an X-S20 with a viewfinder and similar LCD. I spent a wonderful late afternoon in our woods taking photos with it. I used the LCD entirely, never looking through the viewfinder.
The X-M5 is essentially the X-S20 without a viewfinder plus a few extras my camera doesn't have. Lack of a viewfinder is a small price to pay for the significant improvements it has over the X-E4 or any prior generation camera. I speak from experience, since I also have the X-E1, X-E2s, X-E3 and X-H1.

Hi everyone! I'm looking for a camera for my son, I looked at some of the earlier models of cameras. He has a X-M5 on order but it looks like a vlogger's camera more than a photographer's camera. btw, ship date from BH has moved to Nov. 25. It was originally Nov. 12.
Anyway, I started searching and came upon the X-E4 that seems to have a similar footprint as the X-M5. I was surprised at the used prices.
Is this a camera that seems to have the same "cult" status as the X100 VI? Should I suggest an X-T30 II? The X-T50 is beyond his budget.
I shoot Canon but have looked a lot at Fuji. It's one of the lightest and I believe is supposed to be more like a rangefinder? Last in the series it looks like, that might make it more expensive
The X-E3 looks good, too, hard to argue against $900 X-T 30 II though. Suppose you could try these older cameras at minimal cost if things stay the same, should be able to sell it

I first saw the H1 right after release at Samys in Hollywood. I really wanted it but was unwilling to pay the $2,200.00 body only price. As you pointed out, it was released at the end of life of that generation's sensor and processor. There were some other problems that kept it from being successful.
Still, when they had the fire sale and offered the body + grip for $1,000.00, I couldn't pass up the chance. I love my H1 despite its flaws and consider it an elegant camera that has helped me create some really nice images.
New generation Fujis benefit from the lessons learned from the H1. I still have my H1, though bought the S-20 last year. I was looking for the small form factor of my X-E3 combined with the IBIS of my H1 and the S20 fulfilled my wishes.
Thank you everyone for all your responses. I've been away for three weeks on a safari in Namibia and Zambia. Apologies for this late reply. I appreciate all the feedback and suggestions.

Consider a used X-E3. I can’t tell the difference between its files and those from my X-T4. The X-E3 has more buttons and dials that I frequently use but no tilt screen. Eric.
Seconding this suggestion. The X-E3 is a lot better value at the current prices. If you keep an eye on the used market there are still good deals to be found the X-E3 and it will be a wonderful camera.

If you see an X-T30ii at a similar price to an X-E3 then it will be a better camera again. Better in pretty much every way unless you specifically want rangefinder styling. I have owned both.
For me the special ”thing” with the X-E4 is its size and inclusion of a viewfinder. I just got a used body with the 27 and it replaces my (now sold) much loved X-Pro3. I wanted something smaller as an EDC, and the X-Pro always felt too big for that.
The Ricoh GR is an even better EDC but lacks EVF which means I need glasses to compose and handle the camera.
The bigger Fuji bodies handle better when making adjustments on the fly, but I use it as a capable point and shoot, and I can live with having less physical dials and buttons when I do want to adjust things.
They weren’t around long, discontinued quite quickly over covid - with the shortages so I doubt there are many around..
But it has a tilt screen, is tiny especially with the 27mm - fits in a coat pocket, has ok autofocus.

What would interest me is a sort of “Super XE” model. It would have full manual controls like the XPro models (or the XT), it would lose the OVF and just have a high quality EVF, the viewfinder would be at the upper left corner rather than centered, it would have a rangefinder-style body, have IBIS, have the 40MP sensor, and the larger battery used on the XT5 and XH2 bodies.
It would be more expensive than the traditional XE bodies, but Fujifilm could argue that they meet the low end need with other options that were not available when the XE was first introduced.
At the same time, if they go with more or less a basic updated XE design, I hope they add IBIS and the 40MP sensor. ...Show more →
When i bought the Set there were plenty boxes in the shop, but the situtation did change fast.
Because i like the retro design i did thought thought about swtching to the Nikon ZF.
I went to a Shop and after 1 Minute i thought NO.
The body is just so big as a brick.
No GAS.
No way.
Ther are so great (also inexpensive 3rd party) Lenses. the last one was the Viltrox 35mm 1,7 for 160€ (!) around xmas.
