While on vacation in the Caribbean with my wife and another couple, the wife of the other couple received an urgent email from her management team telling her they needed an executive headshot of her for a client proposal ASAP. There were no studio's around us, and all I had was a Canon 1DX and my EF 100-400 FL4 -5.6 II lens, gear I brought along to do some bird photography with. I didn't even have a flash. Given that it was all I had to work with, we set up under a palm tree, hoping the palm fronds would diffuse the light enough. We took a dozen shots, and she went with this one. My one and only executive head shot.
I'd have no problem submitting that image. Easily as technically as good as any other corporate "headshot" I've seen, and honestly a more interesting image than most. Thoughts? "Confident, yet approachable."
Love the backstory...."indian not the arrow" stuff.
Don't be surprised if everyone starts rushing out to buy palm trees...lol.
All,
Thanks for the comments. Doug, the catchlights are actually from the sunset which was just behind me to my left. I was hoping the "Golden Hour" would soften the lighting enough. It seemed to work.
As Hannibal Smith used to say near the end of an episode of The A Team, "I love it when a plan comes together."
The favor to an acquaintance was just icing on the cake (the cake b-e-ing location). Like Mongrel said, one of the best headshots I've seen.
