A few of these are cross posted, but here are some of my favorites from our trip to New Orleans last weekend where I had the opportunity to be on a float Sunday morning tossing beads. Hell of an experience.
Humans have a natural tendency to feel burdened by the weight of the galactic meaningless of their lives and their nearly invisible lasting impact on the world. Tree carving is just a lash out against that, and a relatively harmless one at that, save for ruining the natural aesthetic of things. Luckily it seems to be mostly limited to heavily trafficked trails, which are easily avoidable if you're naturally disinclined towards masses of humanity.
