Theres been chatter among the photography community that Icelandic images are becoming a bit numb, repetitive or have sort of lost their traction and appeal, mainly for their influx into our social media streams. Look, Icelands easy to visit, the country is accommodating to visitors and regardless of its popularity theres no denying its unique and captivating geology, especially from the air. We're going to keep seeing Iceland images because the secret is now out, aerial work is where the unique scenes reside in Iceland. And aerials from different altitudes and various perspectives present a countless opportunities to see Iceland different.
The following images are either from a Mavic M3 pro, or Nikon Z8 & Z7 & 24-120 &100-400 from a Cessna plane. About 90% of my keepers were shot with a 100-400. BTW if you choose to photograph from a plane, its critical they allow open window photography. Photography through windows is virtually impossible to minimize flaring or controlling weird color casts that are often impossible to correct in post processing. Focussing can also be problematic and frustrating. Both aviation companies I used have a "photography flight" option that will cost a lot more but it's 100% worth it. They allow open windows. They only bring 2 people so theres room to scoot around the seats without a seatbelt. They will fly you wherever you wish and at different altitudes. They will fly a scene over and over, banking to the point where you can almost shoot straight down. Shoot fast shutter speeds at around 2000th of a sec or faster..at about F8. Don't be afraid to crank up the ISO (especially with huge advancements with AI NR.) I used 1000-1600 for all of my flight. "Spray & Pray" technique works great.
The following are mostly aerial abstracts of the Iceland famous Braided Rivers or glaciated areas including glacier moraine lakes and glacier tongue areas.
Kane, your first image. "Puzzle Pieces" is unique among this great set of images! The warm sky reflection vs. cool ice contrast works well. You should create a puzzle out of this image. :-)
I hope you had a chance for some aerials over the central highlands.

Thanks Pezz. That Puzzle Piece shot was kinda flukie actually. Those bergs were cruising around pretty good. Kinda windy that day. I remember switching out a battery on the drone and flying back to the scene and the composition was completely different. Making sense of the moving pieces is the hard part. Just didn't look as good 10 minutes later.

Excellent and unique set. Thanks for sharing. Signal Receptors and Intertwined are the two standouts for me. Though the first is the most unique.
Both Signal and Intertwined are drone shots from the same flight. That particular river was incredibly unique. I saw A LOT of braided rivers in 4 weeks in Iceland and none of them had the oxidized iron deposits and black sands. Discovering this river was the highlight of my entire trip and we found it on our last day before flying home.
Kane, I have seen and admired your ariel work from past posts. This set is the best I have seen. Signal and Intertwined are my favorites. Superb work, composition, and PP and easy vote from my end. Looking forward to more from your trip.
