TTArtisans 6-Bit Adapter > No Focus Confirmation on AF-S?

p.1 #1 · TTArtisans 6-Bit Adapter > No Focus Confirmation on AF-S?

Just got my adapter today and I'm having some issues.

- I have the ability to trap focus but the focus box doesn't turn green. The shutter will fire as a red box even though it doesn't turn green and the image is sharp
- I have eye-detection
- It feels like it's in AF-C mode but it's not (triple confirmed)
- To confirm, I'm in AF-S mode which should have the focus turn green.
- For context, this is the intended outcome here:

?si=bjxs6qqjzHZGvItp&t=325

Weirdly enough when I first mounted the adapter, everything was fine and then it just stopped working. I've done firmware updates and reset everything, but nothing has changed.

Any expert insight would be greatly appreciated.

You need to switch to manual focus-

That will fix your problem- As dumb as that sounds- It will allow the box to turn green-

Testing again now to confirm it.

Confirmed- With the adaptor, it allows you to set it to AF-S/AF-C for some reason. Change it to MF and your green box returns all the time.

Its a bit annoying because if you want to shut off Subject detect, you either have to do it from the main menu or switch to AF mode and can do it in the quick menu. Sort of a pain but once you know it, its simple. Assuming you are on the Z6_3 or Zf.

Green box is the same though on the Z8/Z6_3-

Tested it with TTaritsan 6 Bit and coded Leica Lux 35

Thanks, really appreciate it.

What confuses me is that in this video:

?si=TkKymDKZhuNICUJx&t=325

- you clearly see that he's able to basically hold down the shutter, and once focus is locked it turns green AND the shutter fires
- in the MF scenario, what is needed to achieve this?
- if you watch the video, at 5:51, you can see that he sets it to AF-S

Sorry if this is confusing, your answer is the closest one I've gotten to understand how the green box works but it also seems to differ from the example I've see on various YouTube videos.

Thanks!

What lens are you using on the adapter? Mine worked on AF-S and AF-C, but green box appearing/accurate focus was not great with vintage lenses where contrast wasn't high enough (I don't know the technical reason for this, I just found responsiveness to be higher on more modern lenses or when my old lenses were stopped down).

(I note you've already reset things and updated firmware)

I've mounted:

1. Voigtlander 35mm f/1.4 SC II
2. Voigtlander 35mm f/1.2 III
3. Voigtlander 28mm f/2 II

The first lens I mounted (that worked) was the 35mm f/1.2 but it just sorta "stopped working" afterwards.

It just seems as though the lens is behaving as though it's AF-C, but it's clearly on AF-S.

I had the same problem at the beginning, turn out I set setting a6 to AF-On only -> switching it back to Shutter/AF-On solved my problem.

I have the same TTartisan 6-bit adapter on Zf with some Leica M lenses. Regardless what focus mode I set, AF-S, AF-C or MF, the focus box always confirms by turning green.

This solved it, but then Trap Focus under this function is disabled (meaning, the shutter still fires if there isn't focus confirmation.

Solve one thing but then another problem pops up haha.

Thanks for the reply!

With this setting and having the focus confirmation turn green, do you have trap focus where the shutter won't fire unless the box turns green?

I didn't bother to use trap focus, it's never my thing.
But I just tried it anyway, with AF-C setting, the shutter won't fire unless the focus box is green.

Have you managed to update the firmware of the adapter? TTartisan official website has that firmware

Thanks, I'll give it a try later when I have access to a PC.

Hmm, mine still works, can you check your setting again to see if your AF-c and AF-s are set to Focus only? They are a1 and a2 settings.

Appreciate your help and persistence haha.

Yes my AF-c and AF-s were set to focus only, still no green confirmation.

I'm going to let it be for now, and try to upgrade the adapter firmware to see if it makes a difference.

My adapter arrived last night, Im planning on using it with my Zf and the lovely Zeiss VM 35/1.4
I was looking for the FW update page, I can't find anything in their download centre and all the google links including the one above just take me straight to their homepage.
Anyone have the new link for their FW download?

If you haven't found it already,

https://www.ttartisan.com/?list_44/M-Z-6Bit.html

or direct firmware download link
https://www.ttartisan.com/static/upload/file/Firmware/Other/TTartisan%20MTZ%20adapter%20V1.02.bin

Instructions
https://www.ttartisan.com/?tutorials-Firmware/M-Z-6Bit-15.html

Focus confirmation (green point) works in manual focus mode just by rotating the focus ring.
That is all I needed (works like any Voigtlander lens for Z mount, except the aperture which you have to set manually on lens and on camera to match).
I did play a little bit with AF-S, and got it to turn green when holding the shutter button half way and turning the focus (trap focus works if you need it).
Hope it helps.

Does anyone have experience updating the firmware using a Mac?

In the past for windows-only firmware updates I've jumped through hoops using VirtualBox to run Windows in a container, but I'm hoping there's an easier way these days...

It’s just a file copy, so should work the same on MacOS

I just tried, and the adaptor does not mount via USB to my MacOS laptop.

I tried it on a work Windows laptop, and it got a little further, but the USB ports are crippled on that device for security reasons.

Well -- I need to correct myself.

The adaptor DID mount on my MacOS laptop (but not via a direct USB-C connection, I needed to daisy chain it through a USB hub with a USB-A port).

And then I could copy the firmware file, and upon a remount the txt file showed the updated firmware.
