Great images Eric love them all must be very exciting to be that close such powerful and elegant cats. What lenses do you for these shots if I might ask.
Dave
Thanks Dave. It’s a rush when they approach and pass by as if you’re just part of the scenery. I carry a 70-200 for the close ups and depending on the trip 400 with separate tc or 400tc

For me, 4 and 7 are the standouts, while they all are great, those two are just a cut above for me.
Nice work!

Fantastic set Eric! #4 is just gorgeous.
That's encouraging news about the farmers new outlook of these magnificent critters.
I just found out last week that we have a least one mountain lion/cougar near our home. I've driven around looking for it but the chances of ever seeing it in daylight is slim to none.
Dave
Many thanks. It’s been quite some time since these guys ventured north of Florida. Very few sighting east as well. Hopefully they can survive and make a dent in the deer population rather than the deer making dents in the automobiles

Thanks Gary. It is a fabulous experience and despite the fact that you’re close to apex predators there is little to no risk from them. More likely to turn an ankle hiking to keep up.
Boy- you have hit a home run. Each one is so perfect. What time of the year did you go? What tour company? Just wondering as I would love to go myself.
#1 and #7 are my favorites, but these are all amazing! I'm looking into a trip next year, so would love any logistics information you'd be willing to share.
Fabulous set of images, Eric. I've donated to The Cougar Fund for several years and I firmly believe that photographs like these can change people's attitude toward these magnificent animals. It was Tom Mangelsen's images that first led me to the Cougar Fund. How anyone can hunt cougars for "sport" is beyond my comprehension.
Cheers,
Brent
Just an absolute masterclass, as one comes to expect from FM’s resident big cat specialist 😀
No need to pick favorites when they’re all stunning, but I keep coming back to 7 and 9 as they just pop off my screen! Wonder how many steps and how much elevation gain involved in photographing this set of images 🤣

Thanks so much! I’ve gone Dec, Feb and March and enjoyed each visit. Some prefer our summer when it may snow and the pumas in that habitat are amazing to photograph.

What an incredible series Eric, your images are most impressive and really gives one the feeling of the environment these cats live in.
Thanks Louie…it is quite the special place and add in cats and it’s even more so.
I am jealous. I went to Patagonia and saw one puma in very early morning and then hiked to see if I could find him - no luck. So I know how hard it is to get them in good light and distance. Great job.
7 for me is best but they are all good, with high degree of difficulty.
sorry to be late to the party, but I don't think you need any help as each of these well thought out pictures speak for themselves. Lovely, lovely shots indeed.

Many thanks Scott. If you ever decide to go again with the express purpose in photographing pumas let me know and I’ll give you some useful info to ensure you’re successful.

Now with one of the largest cougar populations in N. America, I challenge you to come to Vancouver Island and get such shots. Although around here you are most likely to get a photo of a tail bounding off into the distance or a mandible closing onto your face

Thanks so much UT!

Geoff, in a million years would I even attempt to get close to a cougar outside of the area we were shooting. The chances of getting shots like these are virtually impossible and certainly not safe to attempt outside of so-called Pumaland.
I would like the opportunity however to photograph them in different surroundings....one day perhaps.
