I have been evaluating the new Viltrox 35mm f/1.8 EVO, but I decided to stay with the Nikon 35mm f/1.4 Z. They are very different lenses, but I think for my 35, I would like f/1.4 in a lightweight form factor, and I am OK with a bit of character.

A few from a senior session yesterday using the 35mm f/1.4 Z, all wide open on the Z6 III with off camera flash for fill. Images processed in Capture One with a Fuji-pro-60-ns color profile. Funny thing is, this 35 is becoming one of my favorites.

A few this morning of clematis with the 35mm f/1.4 on the Z6 III. Both images processed with Capture One and have a RNI Fuji Velvia profile applied to bring out the color.

I prefer the 35 f/1.4 Z over the 40 f/2 for the focal length, extra stop, metal mount, and a bit more character. I have used it during a senior photo shoot (see above) and recently at a wedding for getting ready and group shots where it performed well. It is quickly turning into my most used lens on my Z6 III. Of course it is a bit larger than the 40 f/2 but still relatively small for a full frame 35 f/1.4 with AF.

Is it worth getting this lens and get rid of 40/2?

Beautiful photos!
Could you show first one un-processed?
Thanks! Here are both photos straight out of camera as they were imported into Capture One with zero edits. The flower images posted above have an RNI Fuji Velvia profile applied plus a few adjustments. No extra sharpening applied to either set of images.
