p.2 #1 · Strange behavior of Custom Settings

It seems the consensus is that having a “Save Custom Settings to IQ Only” option in the Image Quality section would be welcome to many Fuji shooters, especially those who use recipes regularly.

Does anyone know how to reach Fuji for firmware suggestions? If you agree with this idea, please consider writing to them as well.

If anyone feel inclined to reach Fujifilm as well. I sent an email to: [email protected]

Here is what I emailed to them as a template:

Suggested Feature: “Save Custom Settings to IQ Only”

Currently, the custom settings in newer Fujifilm cameras encompass all camera settings, including image quality, autofocus modes, white balance, and power management options. While comprehensive, this approach can lead to unintended changes and disruptions in workflow, particularly for photographers who rely heavily on custom “recipes” for film simulations and image adjustments.

Proposed Solution:
I suggest adding an option in the firmware to “Save Custom Settings to IQ Only.” This option would allow photographers to save and recall their preferred image quality settings (such as film simulations, color adjustments, and other image-related parameters) without affecting other camera functions.

Benefits:
  1. Enhanced Customization: Users can preserve their favorite image quality settings while maintaining control over other camera settings, leading to a more personalized and intuitive shooting experience.
  2. Consistency in Workflow: Preventing unintended changes to autofocus modes, exposure settings, and power management features when the camera wakes up from sleep mode or is powered off and on, ensuring a smoother shooting process.
  3. Improved Battery Management: Avoiding issues such as unexpected battery drain caused by changes in the “Auto Power Off” feature, leading to more reliable power management.
  4. User Satisfaction: Addressing a common frustration among the Fujifilm community, thereby increasing user satisfaction and loyalty.
  5. Reinforcing Fujifilm’s Reputation: Demonstrating Fujifilm’s commitment to listening to its users and continually improving the functionality of its cameras based on user feedback.

Implementation:

This feature could be added to the camera’s menu system under the custom settings section, providing users with the option to select whether they want their custom settings to apply to “Image Quality Only” or to all camera settings.

I believe this enhancement would be warmly welcomed by many Fujifilm photographers who use custom settings extensively. Thank you for considering this suggestion. I look forward to any updates or feedback regarding this proposal.

Unfortunately the solution is buried at the bottom of a typical rant from Ritchie complaining about his personal issues

Fuji acknowledged to me that they have taken this (and the FXW article) as a suggestion.
