I will definitely do that whenever I get a production model. With Leica, once an image is taken using in-camera lens detection, the settings are embedded in the DNG file.

I am curious to see it next to a Leica 50 Cron (v4/v5), both in size comparison and photo comparison.
I really think this lens is gonna be a huge win for Cosina, and the community as well.

I really like my Summicron-M 50mm V with exception of two things;

1) It flares in the most unpredictable way that is often just enough to ruin an image.
2) Focus shift is just enough to be annoying, needing manual compensation. While I compensate for it quite easily, it is just another layer of complexity.

I'm extremely likely to order this Color-Skopar 50mm f/2.2 and compare it to the Summicron, but I'm convinced it will be much much better controlling flare and ghosting. I'm also willing to guess it's going to have little to no focus shift.

I took this image yesterday, with the sun well out of the frame and the Cron's hood extended. It just happens too often for me to ignore it.

did you have a protective filter on the lens? But I agree, it seems the only 50 lens Leica makes that is good against flare is the APO.

M series? The 50 APO was recalled because of flare problems early in production. I guess it was resolved? I don't have any longer Leica M lens models released in the last ~10 years, so can't really comment on that, but my general Leica M lens experience has been the longer the lens, the stronger the flare, particularly veiling flare.

Yup the early production 50 APOs were recalled because Leica forgot to put some internal antiflare coating/baffling inside the lens case. Of course I'm sure all those lenses got that cute QA hand signed check card.
But the current ones are meant to be good against flare. Word to the wise - if you are looking to buy a used 50 APO, either make sure it is a recent build (in the last few years) or try to verify that it has been fixed. I'm not sure if there was an actual recall, or if Leica fixed your lens if you complained.

My Summicron-M 50mm V is two years old. It's new in that regard.
I generally use a protective filter, but it makes no difference to its ability to flare.

I have only tested the prototype so far, but I really liked the rendering and operation. It's super small and light, reminiscent of the MS Optics lenses in this aspect.

Ugh.. I'm tempted on this one. I've got the CV 50 1.1.. wanted a compliment and was all set on the APO Lanthar (f/2), but these samples look great and the lens is so small and only 1/3rd stop slower..

I’m still tempted but can chill for a sec as this is a regular stock item.

I sold my Color Skopar 50 2.5 to make room for this but the realization is I still really shouldn’t. If I find it fun to use (size, weight, focus throw) then I should sell more stuff if I get it. Which I should do anyway.
