p.1 #1 · Lens foot plate for Sony FE 70-200mm f4 MACRO OSS G II
I’ve decided to take the leap and for portability purchase a Sony FE 70-200mm f4 MACRO OSS G II zoom lens to travel with for landscape. It doesn’t look like these lenses take a Arca-Swiss lens foot like the f/2.8 versions (that I own) but allow you to mount an Arca-Swiss plate if you need it. I want to get one for when I want to use the lens on a tripod. Also looking for a small one designed if available for this specific lens. If you know of one and pass on brand, or product number or link that would be helpful. Thank you in advance and take care.
I haven't used this one, but I've had other collars from iShoot and found them to be of reasonable quality.
Thank you. I’ve used a few of iShoot tripod collars but never on a lens with a collar of its own. I have one I can use on my FE 135/1.8 GM. Will definitely look at this since it looks to be specifically for this lens.

Hi Steve,
Though I have 3 beautiful 20-25 year old Gitzo CF tripod's, the very compact traveler, a fold flat and swing arm for closeup and a medium size full height one, I simply dread bringing them with me traveling on trips or the added bulk/weight to bags/packs. I used to bring the traveler back pre-2012 (my mirrorless IBIS awaking) for my numerous trips to Thailand for use my my Nikon DSLR bodies and lenses, but haven’t carried one overseas since. The other 2 were used for landscapes with my Nikkor PCI-E T&S lens.
Instead of a tripod I use a 4 x 6 x 2 inch thick blue cloth beanbag I picked up from camera swap meet around 14 years ago. I have used this bag to lend steady support to photograph ocean sailing events from a sailboats rails or from fast moving water taxies, or from the back of deck chairs. For wildlife/nature the bag has worked from low tree branches, the open windows in small planes as well as insides and hoods of jeeps and countless rocks, ledges or logs. This all worked because of IBIS, and I have had 4 different Olympus bodies with the best in class IBIS available. Still have my OM-1 (which has in camera ND filters!) and even though its IBIS is a still better than anything Sony claims to have, having even mediocre IBIS like my A6700, but addling in the OIS the 70-200 f4 Macro G has, still makes for a very credible setup. My A7CR adds a full stop even better IBIS. It just takes practice and a bit of thought to set up ahead of time, but I never have missed a shot for the lack of support.
I removed the tripod collar from my 70-200 f4 Macro G the day I got it 9 months ago and haven’t missed it. The lens fits in the same lens slot my Batis 135mm does, which will be staying home when I bring the Macro G, though the reversed hood is even a bit fatter than the Batis. The wife and I are planning a 6 week driving trip for a bit later this year and want to use the collar only so I can attach a PD plate to fit into my Capture Clip or as a anchor point for Slide strap. The Macro G lens is just a bit too heavy to use the PD Wrist straps I am so fond of, especially since both my bodies and now Compact size. The iShoot Collar @MikeEvangelist suggests looks it might be a bit more compact than the OEM and for $40 I might give it a try. But I still will be bringing no tripod, just my trusty $10 beanbag...
Be careful, though. A coworker of mine bought what he thought was the same thing, but it was a larger version for the original 70-200/4 and the 100-400GM. This one is the one you want.

Thank you. This definitely looks good but apparently out of stock. Will have to reach out to B&ahead to get an order put in.

Follow-up: Ordered the Rogeti plate directly and it arrived on the 3rd of July.
It fits to the Sony lens foot as expected. Was surprised by the magnetic coin provided
To use as a screwdriver for the screw provided to attach the plate to the lens foot.
Convenient but hope it stays attached. Let me know if you have any questions.
Take care.

I haven't lost mine yet. Of course, it's not a detachable hood, so it's outside of my typical loss pattern.

I also ordered the Rogeti custom plate for the FE 70-200 GII. It seems like it one of the cheapest and most lightweight options available, and seems a solid option.
One of the reviews on B&H site states the Rogei plate weights around 32 grams (without coin) that would make total 100 grams with original Sony collar (68 gram). Significant lighter than the 3rd party collar options: iShoot around 144 grams, Leofoto SFC-01 around 125 grams. For some (like me) weight also matters

I've had the Rogeti plate on this lens for almost 1.5 years, and I also use their L-bracket on the Sony A7R-V. Both fit and perform perfectly. The L-bracket leaves every port accessible and allows the rubber doors to be opened and closed easily. I couldn't be happier with these items

The few extra grams of the Leofoto collar are worthwhile to me for the security of safety stop screws and the rigidity of a single piece unit. It's also padded which makes carrying a bit more comfortable.

Old thread but I wanted to mention that I bought the same lens and a Wimberley plate for the base. I used this plate but found that this is such an easy lens to carry and weighs so little that I eventually removed the collar (with the plate attached). My camera body has an L-bracket and I now use it exclusively. I have other lenses that weigh more than this lens and don't have lens collars on them.

Looking at the pictures of the Leofoto SCF-01 it is not a singe pieve, the bottom plate is screwed to the collar using 2 screws.
But agree that it looks like a solid construction.

Technically, you are correct. But those pieces are designed to be permanently joined with high torque fasteners. Normally the bolts use some type of thread lock. The joint between the collar and foot often has alignment pins or a tongue-in-grove interfaces that further stiffens the connection. That's more solid than a single low torque, hand tightened 1/4-20 screw threaded into a press-fit insert. I've used many collars with similar designs and never had the upper and lower sections loosen. Every plate I've ever used has loosened at some point. Plates are designed to be temporary and removable.

Really sucks that most companies do not have Arca compatible lens feet.
Recently added a 70-200 F4 GM2 to the kit. For a quick and dirty inexpensive solution I added a Colorado Tripod 85mm plate and added a little Sugru to make a more comfy handle.
Have had good luck in the past with Leofoto replacement feet but didn’t want to spend $100 for the entire collar.
