Settle down tiger- Its JPEG outputs with a preset developed by Leica. For the Q3 and SL3
For those interested, Red Dot Forum (Leica Store Miami guys) is doing a live D-Lux 8 deep dive with Q&A this Saturday Aug 17th at 8pm Eastern Time. These are usually very informative but long, normally lasting about 2 hours. It should be available as a recording for those that miss the live stream.
I spent all day with this camera yesterday- Multiple activities where lugging a camera around wouldn't have been ideal-
This thing fits in your pocket- Little snug but it was in my pocket while going down an olympic bob sled course
IQ is pretty good- Focus is pretty good-
Haptics and usbality is amazing. I set it up just like my Q3 and its really identical feeling but with a zoom. The q3 files are on another level but not expecting them to be anywhere close-
A bike ride, had an 2 time Olympian drive us down a Bobsleigh course in Whistler, and jumping off some docks at the lake. Full day with this little camera and for me its been fun.

This is exactly what this little gem of a camera was designed for in my opinion. The full Leica shooting experience in a compact, well built, package. As you have demonstrated keep the ISO on the low side and the IQ is amazing for such a small sensor. I find this zoom lens to be very nice IQ wise also.
I do wish it was weather resistant rated, and had Leica Looks in it. Then it would be almost perfect.

Great photos Rusty. Sure looks like a nice compact option.
I would have preferred the same style/size camera with the Pana/Leica 15mm 1.7 lens bolted on instead. As much as the zoom offers versatility, I’m not a fan of the retractable lens due to size/look and speed of use. A fast ~30mm equivalent would be a perfect option for me.
Spec says "central" shutter. Is that a zoom lens with a leaf shutter, like the Q?
This is kinda interesting to me, in that I started my journey into Leica via the Panny GX8 with the PL15 ... diggin' the optical acutance of the association with Leica, I figured I'd start finding out what a "real" Leica glass could be like.
Looks like it could make a nice "family outing" camera. Meaning that when I'm out with the family, I don't want to be without a rig, but toting the gear has a way of being a bit "intrusive" to the outing (mostly from their perspective). This seems like it could be generational improvements to the GX8, with much of the DNA from the Q series. Could make a nice "bike" camera, too ... better than relying on the phone when not wanting to tote a lot of gear.
Got me thinkin' ...

Zoom looks a bit slow to rack out, but that shouldn't be a biggie after shooting only primes for that last several years. It's not like I rely on zoom for composition the way I once did.

bought mine for those times I just need to carry something small. I love macro mode and get within a few centimeters to the subject. AF and shutter response are very good. Tracking is OK, pretty good for this type of camera. Battery life? Don't know yet as I;ve only had the camera for a day.

I don't have any issues with the Shutter or AF/zoom speed on the camera. Honestly if you are looking for a great shooting experience, in a tiny unassuming form factor that fits in your pocket, this camera is a winner.
I had this camera in my pocket while on a bobsleigh in Whistler. Its a little bulky when I did this but easily doable.
The IQ is very good and the dng files give plenty of flexibility-
Its not cheap, the Fuji X100Vi is probably the overall better camera but this has a 24-70 zoom and is fun.
I'm keeping mine and will use it when I want a camera I just don't want a camera to be the star of the show.
