p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Profoto A1 vs A1X vs A10?

I originally posted this in the Nikon forum, since I'm a Nikon shooter, but it was recommended that I post it here.

I'm thinking about getting a Profoto A1/A1X/A10, but I can't really understand the difference between them.

I know the A1 and A1X are discontinued, but I plan on buying used, anyway.

From what I can tell, the only difference is that the A1X and A10 support bluetooth and can be triggered from your iPhone.

Other than that, what are the differences?

Are they all compatible with the same AirTTL remote? Do they all support the same light modifiers? Do they all use the same battery?

I just bought a used A1X and used it for first at an event gig yesterday. It worked super intuitively and produced great images under a tent with bright back lighting. I directed the light at the ceiling of the tent and I was shooting with a Z8 BTW.

Highly recommended.

Because the A1X and A10 have Bluetooth, they can work with the latest Profoto TTL transmitter (Profoto Connect Pro) and provide individual power readouts on the transmitter. If that’s not a deal breaker, the A1X and A1 work great with the older Air-TTL transmitter (prior to the Profoto Connect Pro). You can vary power remotely, but no readouts of power levels on the transmitter.
