p.1 #1 · Aurora over Sylvan Lake in the Black Hills of South Dakota
I thought the aurora last April was going to be the best I would ever see but I was proven way wrong. Everyone in my area tends to head away from towns and light pollution during the auroras (generally a good strategy), but I had a few bucket list shots I've wanted for years that require insanely strong auroras to be able to see them with the surrounding light pollution and being higher in elevation with much less view of the hortizon. This weekend I chose composition over darkness and was gifted this amazing shot. This is a combination of a foreground, and the sky from the same location, but a slightly different composition about 10 minutes earlier since I liked the patterns in the sky more in this one. These auroras were so strong, I would have been able to pull this shot off from a single 6s exposure.
