Yesterday, I decided to head to the Imperial Dunes near the Mexican border to capture some images of the dunes. The drive took me about three hours, but with the promising weather forecast, I eagerly made the trip. Upon arrival, I used my drone to scout the area and captured a few images.
Although I've visited the dunes several times before, recent excessive rainfall in California has resulted in much of the area being covered by bushes and other vegetation, particularly on the side where dune buggies are not permitted to drive. On the other side, while much cleaner, is marked by tracks left by vehicles.
By late afternoon, the wind had picked up considerably, making it challenging to even walk. Thankfully, the strong winds helped erase many of the tracks left by vehicles, providing a more pristine backdrop for my photographs.

Fantastic shots here. Wondering if you need to do anything to protect your gear in this situation?
I did with my body. The wind was pushing sand hard but just a foot above the ground or so. Occasionally the sand got higher but I just turned around and held my camera close to my body.
Gregg, your dunes images are always my favorite of everything you post on FM, and these are superb as usual. Not only your compositions, but also the topnotch processing that really brings the photographs to life. You are the Dunes Master!

Thanks Ross. One place I haven't been to yet is White Sand dunes in New Mexico. I know they pick up a lot of colors from the sky, given the sky has some colors at sunset/sunrise. I may finally go there this fall. But yes, I like shooting dune, that's for sure
