p.2 #1 · My initial impressions of the Viltrox 27mm f/1.2 on an X-T5 (and other ramblings)
Jack Flesher wrote Even at f1.2 DoF is pretty deep for a small jpeg post image. This is due to the fact that APS-c 27/1.2 is equivalent to Fx 40/1.8 -- IOW this is about the DoF you'd get from the Nikon Z with it's 40mm pancake wide open; and the Nikon combo will be significantly smaller and lighter than this... Although in its favor, this lens is a lot sharper and you will gain a stop of exposure with this Fuji combo.
You will not gain a stop of exposure with Viltrox 27/1.2, as this lens suffers from pretty poor light transmission, where in reality it gathers 2/3 EV less light than original Fuji lens.
So, for example if You set Viltrox 27/1.2 @f/1.2, then it will gather same amount of light, as lets say.. XF 23/1.4 @f/1.6
Viltrox 27/1.2 @f/2 will gain same amount of light, like Fujinon XF 23/1.4 @f/2.8 and so on.
So, in reality Nikon FF body + Nikkor Z 40/2 will give almost same results (in terms of FOV and DOF), as Fuji body + Viltrox 27/1.2
And because of mentioned reasons, Fuji + Viltrox 27/1.2 combo is poor choice compared to Nikon FF body + Nikkor Z 40/2
Only You gain by choosing Viltrox is all metal construction + aperture ring. And that's about it
There will be also differences in rendering and bokeh shape/quality between both lenses.
For my eyes, rendering and bokeh from Nikkor 40/2 is more "mature", more "classy" than in Viltrox 27/1.2
In Viltrox 27/1.2 bokeh I can see the same cheap looking core/character as in budget Viltrox 23/1.4, only in Viltrox 27/1.2 probably mainly due to its 11 blade aperture - bokeh is more blurry, what can be seen as "smoother" (compared to Nikkor 40/2)
