p.1 #1 · Snow Camping at Yosemite's Glacier Point in a Storm

I've snowshoed out to Yosemite's Glacier Point a few times. It's a bit over 11 miles each way from the end of the plowed road. I originally did this several years ago in order to photograph the firefall from the valley rim. I did it again with a friend a week ago. I didn't achieve the photographic objective of that trip, but I did catch some fantastic conditions.
The first two photos are from Tunnel View, where I stopped on the drive in. I never thought I would post Tunnel View photos here, since it is quite popular, but I rather like these two shots. I knew the nearly-full moon would rise between Clouds Rest and Half Dome, and I was surprised that no other photographers were present for moonrise. There was one guy with a 100-400 who walked away a minute or two before the moon rose.
After that, I hiked through the night to Glacier Point. My partner and I dragged a sled of gear behind us. We had a beautiful sunny day at Glacier Point, and then that following night a storm blew in. About 8 inches of snow fell. In the morning, for a short time the valley cleared, and I was amazed at the views. The valley then filled with clouds; the scenery was gone and the storm resumed for the rest of the day. We had to break trail all the way out, and so the hike was much slower and more strenuous.

The moonrise was partially obscured by clouds, but I still managed to get this.
A brief spotlight hit Half Dome as the storm approached.
Moonrise over the Clark Range at sunset. This is a single exposure. I did not add in or reposition the moon.
Our campsite in the morning. We knocked the snow off the tent before emerging so that it wouldn't fall on us.

My favorite shot: the storm breaking in the Valley.

Wow!
Impressive images with little/no alterations. And the solitude of that winter wilderness. But I think I'm most impressed by the tent image. It gives a sense of what you put yourselves through to enjoy the winter solitude.

An amazing adventure and beautiful images! I've seen a lot of Yosemite pictures but not from some of the vantage points that you had (and worked hard to get). Congratulations on an impressive hike, for getting these gorgeous images, and for the win.
