Absolutely stunning -well done . I have been umming and aahing about the soon to be released 300mm but was struggling to justify the cost with potentially limited use for birds However what you have achieved with the 200-600 is remarkable so thinking of trading in the A9ii for the iii Can I ask what focal length you were at for the swallow shots ? I struggle with tracking them at 600mm -seems like looking through a straw at times Thanks

I got 7000 images and still had 45% battery left. Have you put your airplane mode on? Perhaps sports folk need it off.

Wow 7000 images in one shoot? Processing and choosing the perfect image must take quite sometime not to mention the disc space even at 24mp. it is obviously a camera really made for ultrafast sport and birds in flight for which I can see it's appeal. How did photographers ever do it back in the days when we only had 36 exposures on a roll of film!

Airplane Mode ON, even adjusted EVF to standard. I comparing battery life vs a1, which my friend was shooting side by side with me at this local basketball competition. We were doing comparison test. A9iii drain battery a lot faster, without a doubt vs a1.

I have no problem with the quantity, you adapt your work flow, with programs like fastrawviewer you can view images like a movie pausing to pick then playing the next show.
On an A9III you can get 7000 images in 58s (plus the buffering time). Your battery would probably still be at 98%.
Shots taken for a given battery % doesn't tell us much.
Some high iso ones - sun disappeared being the clouds unfortunately.
I guess I must be wrong about this but it seems to me the images hold up better than the A1 in these conditions.
The autofocus certainly doesn't seem to care. My impression is that if I can get the bird in the frame and the focus plane closer than the bird the acquisition rate is 100% and nearly instant.

Same experience with AF with a9iii+200600G, if the subject is in frame and focus plane close to the subject, acquisition is near instant.
High ISO is pretty bad on a9iii, and dynamic range on high ISO is limited, this is probably my biggest negative so far.
I probably limited ISO range to 10000 or 12800.
My hope for a1ii, a9iii AF system and pre-capture.
No post proccessing applied, export as it is in C1 Pro. Pic 1&2 = ISO1600, Pic 3 = ISO12800, Pic 4 = ISO25600, Pic 5 = ISO3200, Pic 6 = ISO5000, all taken on 200600G
It might be "late" but it's done properly--with raw capture. I got to mess with it a little bit this weekend and for pics of birds taking off it's a total game changer.

This whole camera is done properly - pre-capture, boost mode, the "*" drive mode to allow programming drive mode to buttons, EVF, LCD, dials. Very slick the way you can set everything up.
My only issue is with the position and different sizes of Video Starts AF ON and AEL. AEL needs to move left a little and they can swap the size of Video Start and AF ON - perhaps move them to the right a little. A little awkward getting to the Video Start button if you are Left eye dominant.
I have now switched pre-capture on/off to Video Start and AEL to Reg AF Area + AF ON.
A short eared owl gave me a brief treat and another chance to use pre capture, I was using a 600mm f/4 with a 2x, the bird left the perch for a close by dive, an unsuccessful hunt. I was set at 60fps, the camera followed the bird very well even with the 2x, shutter set at 1/2500th perhaps on the slow side for a close bird.
Here's some from the sequence I lost a few due to wing clipping I should have used the 1.4 but I had no next time to repeat such is nature.
