thats easy, although im a 24/50 guy it would be sigma 28-70 2.8. it was the reason i switched back to full frame with the a7c. its light, renders nicely, has a confident though slowish autofocus. perfect for family documentary with kids and travel.

For me it would be the 35mm f/1.4 GM, but I recently got the 50mm f/1.2 GM and it hasn’t left my camera since so definitely between those two lenses.

I'm going to go with my 50 1.2 GM. Not in comparison big for what it is. Classic focal length. 1.2 bokeh and light gathering. Focal length good for portrait, can be used for landscape and nature. I suppose you can argue to go smaller with the 1.4 Zeiss or the 1.4 GM but I have the 1.2 and I'll take what it does a bit better being 1.2 over the extra weight savings.

My choice would be 28 GM, but since it strangely does not exist, I have to vote for 35 GM.
However, since I am a Sony FE photographer instead of using Leica Q or similar, I refuse to think of a situation when I cannot change lenses. Even with my X100V I use the wide adapter all the time

My (what I thought was lowball) offer at Greentoe for an A7RV was accepted, and now I need to decide on a lens. I don't own any Sony lenses, and I want something around 35mm - 50mm, though ideally 35mm-40mm. No zoom, not as my first lens.
Size is a consideration, as I am using a fujifilm x-t30 with a 27mm f2.8 now.
From what I have seen on the forum, perhaps either the sigma 35mm f2 (which has not gotten a single vote yet) or the sigma 45mm f2.8.
The Sony 35 f1.4 and 50 f1.4 are on the large end of things, as is the Batis 40 f2. I haven't looked into the Sony 50 f2.5 yet.

Consider the FE40 G f2.5. I bought it about a month ago and am trying it out as my walkabout/street photography. I'ts a great little performer

Ah yes. I too am searching for the holy grail of a Sony 28mm GM (or even a G)

If I had to pick just one it would have to be a versatile zoom lens, like the 24-70 GM2, but I don’t own that lens now because I’m not limited to a single lens.
If I had to choose from lenses I own, it would be the 20-70, but I would miss having something faster at times.
If I had to pick from my primes, it would be the Sigma 35/2 I-series. This is probably my most used and favorite lens but that’s because I can switch to a different focal length when I want to. If I’m stuck with one and only one lens, it would have to be a zoom.

I hear the Sigma 28 is good, maybe look into it. I don't mind big all the time. Walking around with a good 28 that is as big as a full size zoom isn't always a bad thing. Now having a few big lenses in a bag is not my thing. Then it becomes a chore.

The E mount version is just as big.
This is a tough one for me. I really like shooting primes. I really like 28mm, so that would kind of tilt me to the Sigma. It’s also a fast lens so it can cover multiple use cases, not just landscape.
The Batis 40 is also nice. Although I tend to use the CV35 APO more, but it’s out of contention in this context as it’s MF.
In 40, I also have the Sigma 40/1.4…..but that is very large and fairly heavy. For general use I’d probably use the Batis 40.

The Sigma Art 28/1.4 is pretty great. Big, especially in Canon EF mount with adapter, but really terrific images.

Without question the Tamron 28-200. As others have mentioned, it covers a wide focal length range and has pretty nice rendering. I shoot my GM 35 much more but if stuck with just one, the Tamron would take the cake.

I would choose the Sony Sonnar T* 55mm f1.8 ZA.
It’s old, the barrel is devoid of buttons and switches, and it’s piss poor for backlit fountain shooting.
But it’s light, fast, has quick and silent AF as good as any GM, is unassuming, and has the Zeiss color signature.
I have a lot of good lenses, almost all of the G and GM primes and some great Sigma glass, but the Sony 55/1.8 remains my favorite of the bunch. I have more keepers from this lens than any other lens by a significant margin.
+1 this was my only lens for close to 3 yrs when I got a7. Sold and bought a lot of lenses shifting my setup,
was able to find crazy deal and bought back this little gem.
In terms of hobby, I'd go with 200-600.
For portrait work, I can live with just the 55mm.

My only lens would probably be my 35GM.
I don't have one yet but the 20-70 might be a top contender due to it's versatility and image quality. I do mostly street, architecture, scapes, nature, walk around and I think this lens might work well for me.
