Since "Still Life" has been added to the Macro board I have kinda landed there. Stop in and have a look sometime. Anyway, I thought I'd pop my head in here real quick to give anyone interested an update on our children as of Christmas Eve afternoon.
This is Cookie (Vegas's mom), who is four and ½ years old) with her prize possession. For the life of me I can not understand what nutritional value there could possibly be in a wad of grass and mud. Yet ALL the dogs seem to be fascinated with this practice. They will chew on the chunk of grass like a cow would chew it's cud. The yard is littered with huge divots and chunks of "sample" clumps that apparently did not pass the initial taste test.
Most of the time it is just ingested and passed normally. However, there have been plenty of times it is rejected by the stomach and gets deposited on the floor/carpet when they return to inside the house. That's always fun to clean up. https://lightbeemzphoto.com/photos/misc/cookie_1680c.jpg
This is Drifter (Vegas's dad), the founder of the "let's eat grass and dirt" club. He is eleven years old and has perfected the activity. He is seen here cruising the yard for his next snack. If he is caught pulling up a wad of dirt and grass, he will run away before you can get to him to stop him. However, he will return to his spot as soon as your back is turned to continue the dig. He is the master! https://lightbeemzphoto.com/photos/misc/drifter_1699c.jpg
Tipsy, who is eight, is more of a "bird seed and bunny poop" kinda gal although just regular poop will do just fine thank you. ALWAYS on the hunt for these delectable treats. Yea, she looks huge here but it's mostly the fur coat.....she only weighs 66 pounds. Her nose never leaves the ground while making the rounds in the yard because she's afraid she will miss a treat. She is always the last to come back in the house because she insists on making a grand entrance. https://lightbeemzphoto.com/photos/misc/tipsy_1752c.jpg
Surfer, who is little over two years old now, is currently in the process of getting used to some meds we are trying that should hopefully mellow him out a bit. They seem to be working pretty well so far. He and Drifter have had some heated exchanges in the past but we haven't had an issue in a while. It's partly a male dominance thing and partly a food thing.....fingers crossed the meds work.
He is not such a big participant in the grass and mud eating craze but will grab a sample from time to time. He used to aggravate Tipsy on a regular basis. They were the bestest wrestling buddies from the time he was small until Vegas came along. He has since become fascinated with the newest member of the family (Vegas) and they are inseparable. I think Tipsy is at the age where I don't think she minds losing her sparring partner. https://lightbeemzphoto.com/photos/misc/surfer_1728c.jpg
And now we have Vegas who just turned nine months old on the 21st. She is learning ALL the tricks from the other hoodlums. As you can see, she will eat the grass and mud, the bird seed and bunny poop (and other poop), the sticks, the leaves, the yard ornaments , and anything else she can get away with. Apparently her goal is to hear us screaming "what are you eating now?!" and she regularly gets her wish. She is always up for some mischief.
I actually have a photo of her from this day that depicts her wildness and goofiness perfectly. We laughed SO HARD at it....but....I was threatened with bodily harm if I posted it anywhere. It's really not all that flattering but still.....
This one with her grass wad will have to do. https://lightbeemzphoto.com/photos/misc/vegas_1748c.jpg
You are now all caught up, about which I'm sure you're thrilled.
Your children are wonderful Larry!
My "kids" were the same!! Especially Lily...she love to hijack toys and such and run under a tree and wait for me to come and TRY to take the toy back!
My only "son" Rocky could give a crap! Leave me alone I want to snooze and snack dad!!!
Excellent story and again beautiful "children"!
Give them a hug for me please!
Happy New Year to all!

Quite the crew you've got there. Dig the backstory, such detail.
Thanky Mr Bug. Glad you were amused by the descriptions. It's an ever changing and sometimes aggravating comedy of weirdness, but I can't imagine things without it.

I have always been under the impression that dogs ate grass because of an upset stomach and the grass would help them throw up, but yours are getting the dirt also.
