Awe inspiring event. Incredibly I was able to drive the infamous Green River Lakes road on December 17. It is a rough bugger and with about 8” of snow makes it a challenging drive. I hit the toughest sections of the road in the dark hoping for a hint of the Aurora Borealis. No luck but the planet Venus rising in the east was amazingly bright. The ice on the Lower Lake has frozen clear and smooth—snow free! This little adventure resulted in incredible scenery, light, color and beauty. Thank you for looking.
Wow! like Joel said, super cool (literally & figuratively). Some of the most interesting shots I've seen from there. Good job driving. Where did you sleep? How cold was it?
Looks very cold! And you got some great color. One of my favorite car camping spots. Aren't you supposed to look north for the aurora? You are looking east in all of these, I think. But if the lights aren't happening, I guess it doesn't matter which way you're facing.
I left my house in pinedale at 330am. Got to my first shooting location by 530am. It was minus 5f at the lake. Was home by 230pm. Long incredible day.

Thanks Monika. I did shoot from my first location to the north. When I left Pinedale the kp was a four. No service up there so I do not know if it went up or down in the two hours but doesn’t matter, no sign of tie Aurora anyway to the north, east or in between.

The Kendall Warm Springs dace area must have been putting up quite a plume of steam in those temperatures. Did you stop there or were you nose to the barn on your way out?
I did stop there. It was steaming real good. I shot there as well but only captured the eagles which were hanging out. Monika C wrote:

Great shots, especially love the very last one. At those temperatures my fingers only work for a few precious minutes at a time, you must have some great cold tolerance.
