p.1 #1 · AstrHori released a new black brass light meter

AstrHori just launched a new light meter in black brass. It's one of the smallest light meters in the market.

These are the key specifications:
  1. Designed with a black brass body.
  2. Features a display with a 0.66″ OLED electronic screen.
  3. Equipped with a built-in lithium battery that lasts up to 12 hours of continuous use.
  4. Charging via Type-C.
  5. Offers 31 stops of aperture value and ISO 32 stop.
  6. Provides real-time metering.
  7. Priced at $79.

Looks awesome but will it be accurate? It seems that many of these new hot shoe meters cannot reliably do the one thing that matters.

This also has the same two design issues that are making me look for something to replace my Hedeco Lime II (I actually think I'll just use a regular ol' Sekonic handheld meter):

1. Display on the top (impossible to read in bright sunlight; you have to shade it with your hand)
2. Adjustment wheel will move as it brushes up against your clothing (if worn with a neck strap) or even in the camera bag, changing your settings. Although this meter is so small that maybe the wheel won't extend far enough for that to be a problem.

These meters power down after a set time (with the Hedeco it's 45 seconds), but that's usually long enough for any inadvertent movements of the wheel to spin your settings to a wildly different point from when you last used it.

I'll either hold out for the redesigned Reveni meter that can be recharged by USB or forget about using a cold-shoe mounted meter and use my phone or a handheld Sekonic.

I have not tried this meter but @yukosteel wrote a review on it: https://www.yukosteel.com/2023/04/review-ultra-compact-astrhori-ah-m1.html

It's compact but I believe the Doomo is slightly smaller and the Reveni significantly smaller. Both seem accurate according to reviews.

Check out the Reveni Labs meters - all very ingenious designs and the USD goes a long way in Canada: https://www.reveni-labs.com/
