I shot this for a demonstration for my intermediate photography course at Chico State so students could begin to understand some of the benefits of using off camera flash. I brought out my fog machine and we played with that a little as well - mostly to eliminate a busy background of buildings on campus. The subject was a student's uncle who happened to need a new headshot for his side hustle.
Haha! Yes sir, it is a long ass haul - 3:45 mins! I'm here in Chico now permanently since beginning teaching at Chico State in 2014. But I still come down to the 209 often for shoots.

There used to be a Ken's Cameras in Modesto - way back in the late 1970's and one in Monterey where I grew up. Chico is a nice place and you got Bidwell Park and I imagine that Paradise is mostly rebuilt by now. Glad to see that Chico State has a photo program which appears to have a great instructor. Congratulations and keep up the good work.
Yea, many of the photographers in Modesto would reference Ken's. The only place I was familiar with was the Camera Shop downtown. It was a place where I'd get my film and also sort of a watering hole for photographers from around the valley. Good times. Thanks man, I try to share with the students there's more out there besides making Tiktoks lol

Yeah. I knew Ken Sharp. I worked for Ken's in Monterey for a couple of years and once in a while I'd have to go to one of his southern San Joaquin Valley stores to fill in for the day. He had the whole area covered. Seems quaint in retrospect.
