Sorry, can’t comment on the RRS bracket, but recently purchased the one in the link below from small rig, and absolutely love it! It took a minute to get used to the hinged L, but now I absolutely love how this bracket works and highly recommend it! Just in case you’re looking for other options…

I don’t have the a7r5 rrs version but do have it for the A1 with exact same design. I actually prefer the curvature of the pinky rest area. Very comfortable with No sharpness issue at all.
I also have smallrig bracket but for the z8. Can’t go wrong with either manufacturer. RRS is just way overpriced IMO

The hinge seems like it could have some play in the hinge and not be as stable in portrait mode on a tripod. Have you had any problems with that?
Nope, so far it’s been rock solid switching back and forth with no play whatsoever, and Ive shot a bunch of 400mm lens at super slow SS with sharp results. The built in mechanism really “clicks in” solidly when you move the hinge

Thanks SouthFla. I may look into that for my newly acquired A7RV. Was going to go with the Smallrig bracket made for the A7RVI as many have said that it will fit the RV and hope it does.

I saw the other day that B & H has the Sunwayfoto L bracket for the A7RV and I really liked the bracket on my A7RII because it simply omits the piece by the battery door and that seemed to me a good thing as I have smaller hands and don’t need the extra grip. I have ordered one and get back if I see some weaknesses.

I have the Sunwayfoto L bracket on my A7RV. It's pretty solid and fairly priced (much less than an RRS). I also like that the bracket doesn't extend beneath the battery door as it adds less bulk. On the negative side, I do find that it impedes door access for the ports. I have to slide it away from the camera to access the doors. Also, it doesn't include a way to store a hex adjustment key in the bracket like some other higher cost brackets do.

That sharp cornered area at the bottom of the grip near where
the pinky finger would rest seems a bit suspect, comfort wise.
That area looks sharp in the photos, but feels much less so. It's not a hard sharp edge, it's slightly smoothed and has RRS's usual high quality finish, so it feels just fine.

amv8, I agree with your weaknesses of the Sunwayfoto A7RV L bracket but the bracket for the A7RII also didn’t have a place for the allen wrench, so I put a mini pouch on the strap of that camera that held the wrench and extra battery etc. to take care of that problem. The access to the doors I am going to try and find a plastic hook to access those. It’s definitely not perfect for sure and I don’t know if any L bracket has addressed the later problem well while still allowing the swiveling of the screen.

After years of using a 3-legged thing L bracket I replaced it with one by ProMediaGear (PLSA1T).
The vertical is offset providing full access to side ports whichever orientation you're shooting in without having to extend the vertical (though the vertical is extendable if you should need that feature, I don't). It also has a lip to prevent it twisting when attached to the camera.
Cost me ~£125 delivered (had to get it from an EU-based store as no UK stockists). They're around $130 US.

The ProMediaGear bracket looks very similar to the Sunwayfoto but had the interesting method of moving the vertical piece rather than folding like the SmallRIg. I assume though you need the allen wrench to slide that piece out but it’s pretty clever and they don’t show where the allen wrench fits magnetically. Clever engineering for sure.

I had the RRS L bracket for my A7r iii and while it was well built, I sold it out. It adds to much bulk and weight to the camera which I certainly didn't want. I tried the ProMediaGear too with similar built quality but the same problem. The ones that cover the bottom on the battery side, may compromise on the camera;s weather sealing if they require to remove the door for of the battery chamber and pace it on the bracket. So I ended up getting the Markins L bracket which I like a lot. Unfortunately, they don't make one for A7r v, afaik. If it were me I would look for the one with least weight and footprint. Those who don't mind weight and bulk, RRS and ProMediaGear are both good options.

The allen key slots into the vertical. In the image that shows the underside you can see a silver (magnetic) disc on the vertical piece, the allen key slots into the hole down left of that disc.
