Peter, after a very long time I clicked on FM and what a treat to see a jaw dropper! The first image is just mind blowing. Probably one of the best BW I have seen of this Bristlecone. It definitely earns my vote. Great work as usual 👍🏻

Parul - Thank you. I appreciate that. There is always the risk when photographing something that has been photographed a lot, and this is one of them, that one will end up with a trite, hackneyed version of events. The hope is always that you will come up with something new or different to say about whatever it is that is front of your lens. When this started to take shape in Photoshop, it seemed like there was something worthwhile going on.

Peter...I meant to ask if there is any living tissue on the tree? Sometimes just a strip and sometimes not.

Good question Al, and since there were ample signs especially all around this tree admonishing photographers to stay on the trail, we respected those and stayed on the trail. Earlier on that trail was where we found those budding cones and needles, which appeared to be coming from much younger trees, but I was just as interested in those which is why I included that shot here.

#1 is stunning. I haven't been there in years, but remember being saddened by how denuded the ground beneath it was (used to be covered in rocks), but #3 is also outstanding. I've never looked at their buds.
