Gilles, is it still working? I have heard that even if a body survives a fresh water dunking that it can corrode inside quickly and die within a year. How did yours fare?

I kayak with my 100-500 and R5. Never dropped and never washed over by waves - yet, I DO have insurance which eases my mind. I will bring my 600 f4 but only is a dry bag, in a waterproof compartment and only bring it out when on an island. I’ve taken some excellent photos while on the water. Just be prudent and also get some good insurance,

It is still working , not any sign of malfunction whatsoever. It did not get drown completely, maybe it helped. Maybe I just got lucky.

My canon 5diii stopped working when I refused to put it away during a massive torrential downpour.. it was sons football and surface water had players sliding , the ball just would not bounce as there was so much surface water. My 5diii started doing weird things but I was determined to catch the action.
It then stopped… the camera that is.
I didn’t panic strangely. I just removed the batteries from the battery grip … nothing else
Once home I stripped everything off the camera and lens. Wrapped both in sheets of perforated kitchen roll . Bought several bags of the cheapest rice I could and buried both camera and lens in a bucket. Sealed the bucket with cling film and left it for a week.
A week later took it out, removed the kitchen roll, inserted fresh charged batteries and switched on.. worked fine. The lens was also fine. Had internal mist/ fogging due to me removing from camera.

A long time ago, I had a digital P&S. I dropped it in the sink (full of water.) I immediately retrieved it, shook it out as much as I could, then let it dry for several days. I turned it on, and it appeared to work, but everything was tinted pink/purple (screen and files). I tossed it the kitchen junk drawer. Some time later (months?/years?), I took it out and the battery was dead. I charged the battery and it worked just fine.

I had a Canon TLB years and years ago that I dropped in a lake. No great loss, it leaked light. I imagine there is water in there and, by now, fish. :-). Glad your camera is back in action!
