p.1 #1 · Two-legged and four-legged

Great riders and amazing horses at a recent cutting horse competition held near me. My first time as a spectator. Fun shooting too. Here are a couple I liked. Steve

Thanks Douglas! There was plenty of action to capture. I really enjoyed shooting these folks and their well-trained horses. Steve

Yes great action compositions! I understand that training the horse to make the moves he/she has to takes much training!
Again very well done!

Thanks Dan! It wasn't immediately apparent to me watching the action as it happened, but once I began processing the stop-action images from the camera and lens a couple of things struck me in the images. (1) the laser focus of both rider and horse on the cow they were cutting out and (2) the horses were so well trained they were responding to the cow's movements with reins quite loose. Sure there was input from the rider's body and stirrups but a lot of it was the horse on autopilot from its training. I'm not an experienced rider or horse person, but these are really beautiful, well-trained animals. Great fun to watch and photograph. Steve

I got my 1st "taste"of this challenge on the tv hit "Yellowstone". They had about a half a segment on how they trained the rider and horse to do what needed to be done to win.

Super images!

It was last season towards the end.
There is more to being a "cowboy" that I thought. TV or not!
Very educational and viewed.
