p.2 #1 · What do you use the RF lens control ring for?

I have it set to exposure compensation, but admit, like you, rarely ever use it. Not because it's not useful, but because I have to develop the habit after decades using EF lenses that didn't offer such a function.

I opted for exposure compensation so that I can set it while viewing through the EVF in manual exposure mode with auto ISO. It's a lot faster than accessing exposure compensation while in manual exposure mode via the rear LCD's Q menu.

I shoot M with auto ISO. EC is accessed by holding the SET button and rolling the main dial up top.

Thanks, good to know. I have the SET button assigned to image playback magnified view, which was my preference with my DSLRs and is an ingrained habit.

I do not use the control ring for anything, I imagine it being bumped and messing up a shoot at the worst possible time. I have my EC programmed to the holding the SET button and turning the top front dial simultaneously.

When I was trying to use the control ring, it got accidentally turned more than once, probably while hanging at my side. You configure the ring to only operate while half-pressing the shutter, but this can create other problems.

Yeah I've been on horseback for a week with my cameras and there's no way I'm messing with something on the control ring. it would get bumped in a heartbeat, especially with others occasionally handling my gear when they're trying to take photos of me on my horse.

I used to use Fv mode but about 6 months ago switched to M mode. It's easy with Auto ISO. For the 3 dials on the R6II, R5, etc adjusting SS, Aperture and EV is just more natural and faster.

The R7 only has 2 dials so I mapped Aperture to the lens ring. I don't really like it but I don't often change it so it works out well. I mapped the main dial for SS and the QC dial for EV.

Reading some of the posts I set. R7 up with my 100-500 this way. The ring is close to the body. I don't use it on a lens on my RF 24-105 which is near the front element.

Since the consensus so far is that "it wouldn't be necessarily missed", I can't help but wonder if Tamron, or Sigma, if/when they do produce RF Lense's will bother to incorporate it?

I don't use it b/c I often grab the lens/camera by the throat (lens connection to camera body) and end up moving it and changing settings I don't want changed.

I use it to change Kelvin WB. It’s set up so I have to half press the shutter button while turning it, so I don’t change it accidentally. I wish you could adjust the sensitivity or have some sort of acceleration because it’s kind of annoying how many times I need to crank on it to go from 2800 to 6000 (for instance).

Brand new to the R5 and mirrorless ... The other day as per suggestions made here (Thank you for the help... This forum is amazing) and from watching a video (?WildWings?)

I set my control ring (which is an adapter so I can use my EF lenses) to the select autofocus area. As mentioned in a previous post, the R5 main control wheel changes ISO, and top wheel shutter, lower one aperture, so adding the control dial to ISO along with a couple fast back button options gives me all I need for my preferred mode, "M"
