We (my son and daughter in law) are expecting a grandson in September, and my daughter wedding in October, so we decided to go on vacation in June to Italy.
These are my best shots when I was able to sneak out early morning [with my lightweight camera and lens] from a romantic holiday our 31st year of marriage.
Tuscany is gorgeous place. These shots are pretty iconic, but pretty new to me.

Nice Val d'Orcia set Scott. Iconic or not, I always love to see images from there. Yours have interesting compositions that put your personal touch on them. My Wife and I love this area. When I go alone I usually stay at the Hotel Spa Casanova which is nice enough for me. When my Wife is with me we stay in a boutique hotel in the charming little town of Pienza. Where did you guys stay?

Thanks for posting,

We stayed at - IL MIRAGGIO IN VAL D ORCIA - it was spectacular. Service was great. The rooms were great. And it's about 2 minutes from town. And 5 minutes from all the iconic pictures. It was about $350 euro per night but worth it to make the wife happy while I drove around in the AM. I would not do this for myself - I am more of a tent/basic guy myself.
Glad you like Val d'Orcia set. Thanks for the encouragement. I walked in from the other side to the small church by mistake but liked the views. Much appreciated. Scott

Glad you like the beauty embraced. It is a gorgeous place. Next time we will stay there for longer. I love Pienza. And the hotel we stayed at was spectacular (pool, breakfast, price, service). As always, when you are new to a location, it takes a few tries to be happy with the composition.
I even found a guy that would take me on a 30km hike through the area- next time!
I think the R8 is as good as the R5 ( I have it) except for the mpx.
Some of the things it does better are:
1) Electronic shutter can be used in AEB - not so with R5. This is a great feature for casual landscape. I use AEB and with electronic at 30fps, it's like one shot.
2) Weight and size and price - I will take it kayaking next week because $1500 loss I can risk. With the new less expensive RF lens (16, 24-50, 24-105, 15-30, and 100-400) its a great travel/hiking package.
Surprises:
1) I have the Kingston canvas plus and there is virtually no delay. Really fast and great for video.
2) Bit of default confusion between r5 and r8
Some of the things are less
1) Obviously 45mpx and IBIS - 45mpx is important
2) To use electronic you lose some dynamic range for 12fps - don't understand why
2) I really miss the c3
Overall, for landscape its perfect except the lacking c3 and only 24mpx.

Fabulous set of images here. Thank you for sharing them with the group! Such an inspiration.
Glad you like the images. It was my first time out with my light travel kit - R8 and lessor Rf lens, and I was happy with the results. Which is good because tomorrow I go kayaking with orca (hopefully close) and the next 5 days will be backpacking 20 miles and 4000' where I need lightweight equipment. RF 100-400, r8, and RF24-50, RF16, and RF24-105 ( I will leave 24-50 and 100-400 at home to save weight).
Thank your for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott
