p.1 #1 · Laguna Capri and Waterfall - Argentina Side of Patagonia

After a very long day of travel between Puerto Natales Chile and El Chalten; we went for a hike up to Laguna Capri.

This is a really easy hike to a campground by Laguna Capri which has nice views of Fitz Roy.

We scouted about for a waterfall shot which is quite popular and found our own version.

Then the next morning we hiked around to find out what we could get.

These are the best of this series. The light did not cooperate from Laguna Capri but it was great from the waterfalls.

1-3 of 3

Comments and feedback are appreciated.

The first image is beautiful. (The sky colour seems a bit off, but then you were there and I wasn’t.)

Rajan Parrikar: I am glad you like the 1st. I will go back and reprocess. This image is really the (similar) picture I saw that motivated the trip. And it is my favourite of the trip. Thank you for the specific feedback on sky colour. Much appreciated. Scott

keepclicking: Glad you like 1 as well. It is my favourite and I am going to go back and fix the sky. It was a super time even though it took 36 hours of flying/switching planes to get there. And then a 6 hour drive through officious customs. But what a (set of) country - humungous lakes, huge glaciers, guanacos, Rea's, we saw a panther (but too early to take its picture) and condors, huge volume river, deserts and torres. It was fantastic. Much appreciated. Scott

Jimmy321: Glad you like 1. It is my favourite aside from a bit of motion blur from the wind at sunrise. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated Scott

junglialoh: Glad you like the composition and set. The composition on 1 was challenging - just to my right was a 20' drop, and if you went lower you cut off more of Mount Fitzroy and the colours. I could have taken a 2nd day (or 3rd day) to look for more and day hiked back. Its only 2 hours to get to this sweet spot. It was fantastic. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

Colors are off resp. overdone, especially in the 1st picture with it's strange magenta/blue cast.

Yes, we want our photos to "pop", but don't go overboard.

Thanks for the colour feedback. I am struggling with LR. I switched and find it difficult to work with. Plus I am a smidge colour blind. Here is an srgb with some adjustment in magenta. Much appreciated. Scott

The reprocessed version of #1 is quite nice. The motion blur is one of those sacrifices of a longer exposure with any wind in order to get the waterfall to look nice. Assuming this is a single image. Only way to have addressed would have been to take multiple exposures at faster shutter speeds and blend in the trees or the waterfall.

Overall a stunning location and sounds like an amazing trip and hike. Glad you at least got to see some of Fitz Roy!

Jean jacques: Glad you like the image(s). Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

Hathaway: Glad you like 1. Patagonia is a challenge for long exposure - the wind is always blowing. And then when you perched are on the edge of a 20' cliff trying to keep your tripod from blowing off, its hard to concentrate on multiple exposures, composition, and processing vision. But enough excuses. It was fantastic fun. I likely will go back in the first week of April again. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

Really like #1 - the reprocessed one looks better!
Patagonia is near the top of my bucket list - hope to be able make the trip at some point.

Glad you like 1. I found a flight to Santiago through Dallas for only $1000 plus $150 to Puerto Natales. It was hard to resist. This is the perfect time of the year to go with fall colours. Talk to me when you are planning the trip. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott
