p.2 #1 · Taking cameras to sports, concerts and other venues

I’m not into sport but do like to go to live music
In the UK it’s hit and miss with some of the smaller venues wether you’re allowed to take in a ‘proper’ camera , it would be a nightmare to get to the door and then find they won’t let you in
If I know the venue I’ll take my R5 and 70-200 F4 have had some nice shots, with DXO I can use the R5 at max ISO and still get decent results if the venue is really dark as some small venues are
I prefer if possible to be a bit further back and get a nicer angle, the professional shooters right at the front have to shoot from a low angle and can only stay for a few songs
It’s only possible to do that at small venues and obviously isn’t possible when it gets crowded but I prefer music gigs in small venues anyway a nicer atmosphere

Personally I’d hate to be sitting next to someone with a 400mm lens who is more excited about taking a few images, dreaming they could be at field level rather than sitting back with a dog and beer and enjoying a nice game out.

I guess it's a good thing most stadiums have rules against telephoto lenses. I wouldn't want to sit next to someone holding a 400mm lens either (unless it's M43). However, some get more enjoyment out of photography than watching the game. I think it's exciting to get the opportunity to do sports photography, even if you're in the stands.

That’s all good as long as the guy next to me with his big lens doesn’t affect my enjoyment…otherwise a glass of beer might accidentally get poured onto the lens.😋
