Last Spring I a job to photograph the very talented Julius Thomas III, who wanted some creative portraits as a gift to himself for a "landmark birthday" as he called it. We drove a couple hours out of Portland to one of my favorite remote locations, and this ended up being my favorite shot. Some of you might recognize him from his most recent role playing Alexander Hamilton in the Broadway production of Hamilton.
Lit using natural light and a reflector. Photographed using a Canon 5D MKIII with a Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 lens set to f/8, 1/200th sec, ISO 2OO. Fun fact: spray on sunblock is a great way to add some glow to someone's skin without making it look too greasy.

Thank you so much! I wasn't anticipating the new growth to be there, so it ended up being a very happy accident that he wore a green suit that matched the plant life and also harmonized with the color of the landscape.

No problem! A good friend of mine used to do makeup for MTV, and that's a tip he gave me several years ago right before I did a shoot for a body builder.
