Just got back from spending 5 days at Bosque del Apache and it continues to be a magical place. The weather was superb, clear skies with that magic light in the mornings and evenings. There was much more water in the various ponds compared to last year and the Crane Pond on the road coming from San Antonio was flooded this year. There were cranes in the Crane Pond every morning, so the fly offs were terrific. As to bird count, have no idea but there were plenty of cranes and snow geese both at the refuge and at Bernardo.
The biggest effect on the birds was a complete corn crop failure. No one could answer as to why this happened. Due to this condition, the birds seemed to stay further out in the fields.
During my 5 days I found Cranes, Snow Geese, lots of Road Runners, raptors, some monster bucks and what was a first for me Mountain Bluebirds. There were plenty birds to keep me actively shooting during my visit and I look forward to next year.

Thanks Morris, oh the light was sweet alright compared to what we're getting here in the NW currently. It was a great time and came back with lots and lots of images.
Louie, awesome as usual for you. I had planned on going to Bosque in early December but a trip to the hospital has put a wrench in my plans for now. Hoping to go in January if possible. Bruce

Thanks Bruce, sorry to hear about your health issues, hopefully they won't prevent you from going down in January. I had dinner with Jim Palmer a few nights and he asked about you and whether you were coming down or not.

Thanks Bruce, hope you're feeling better and good enough to go to Bosque.
Beautiful shots Luie. I am heading there for a day or two this week (will try to be there tuesday morning and then again maybe friday/sat as weather looks favorable then.
Any tips you may share? Looks like you prefer to shoot 600mm? I am assuming you need to be on the trails or would it be worthwhile to take waders to get eye level shots?
I have 100-500; 500F4 (plus convertors) , 24-105/17-40 and full frame body (R5).
