When does irrational indulgence cross the line? Is it when you're getting a anodized black aluminum lens for three times the price of the already overpriced silver brass version?
I have a loose theory that the Leica market is half propped up by the crypto market and BTC is currently bullish right now.

I just read that:
Another detail of the new lens is the black painted brass focus lock button which acquires a unique patina with frequent use.
Um, ok, so we have an aluminum lens in anodized black but the infinity lock is brass with shiny black paint that will patina? [insert silent scream]
I think Leica is actually trolling the collectors
What about the tab? I believe it's made of aluminum because it's attached to the ring. Over time, it might start to peel and acquires a unique silver appearance.

Goodness, I hadn't thought about that. I just laughed so hard I scared my cats off the sofa.

I think the person at Voigtlander who designed the collapsable APO that doesn't collapse is in cahoots with the designer of the black SR reissue!
Some people don't like black Voigtlander lenses with a brass front ring that's chrome plated. However, there are plenty of compliments about how stunning the 35/1.4 black Steel Rim version looks. It's great for Leica, but not so much for Cosina.
I'm looking at the lens hood in the Leica announcement photos and it looks it is the old hood that causes vignetting when used with filters, not the newer slimmer version.

You are right. I think these were my own pictures! haha
How could they?

BTW, Leica has a buy back clause for purchasing this black SR lens back from a new owner if new owner desires to sell lens before 2 years of ownership.

By the way...if you buy a used version of the SR with the "old" hood, Leica will NOT replace the defective hood.
They will however be happy to charge you hundreds of dollars for the "new" version.
Does it still apply even if a pre-owned 35/1.4 SR is covered by the warranty? I received two new hoods in the end. Leica mistakenly sent me an extra one.

Oh so that is why I had to wait nearly one year for mine.
I believe it's because the first one was sent to me for beta testing. I was checking to see if the heavy vignetting was eliminated. The second one was the production model. However, they appear identical.

Yes. Leica is treating it as a "out of warranty" repair for folks who purchase a pre-owned SR with the old version of the hood.

Yes, I'm certain.

This does not seem right since the lens should still be in warranty. I would go back to the store who originally sold it assuming you were given that original invoice.
