Dear friends,
I just bought, here in Italy, the steel rim reissue; it was produced on July 18, 2023 and the included round lens hood is the new one.
I took some shots but I see that from f1.4 up to f4 the photos still have vignetting;
I noticed that the aperture ring has a play of about half a millimeter in the positions of the aperture values.
In the meantime, the diaphragm is in any case rigid, fixed at the set value. Is this slack normal? I am attaching a link to a short video:

thanks Fred for your response,
I was a little worried, now I'm much less worried ... as soon as possible I will show you some of my photos with this little jewel whose rendering fascinated me right away.

Hello everyone! I’ve read you for a couple months now and got my hands on a reissue SR.
First off, lovely chrome color, a little jewel. Leica price 🥲 This was my first Leica lens bought new. It also has some play in the aperture ring, and the turn isn’t as satisfying as my V5 50 summicron tbh. Focus is a dream though.
I didn’t get the newly hood design in the box either.
I couple the lens with an M11.

This little lens is so much fun to use. Took it out in Portland last night at a place called HopScotch. Super rad little place to go for an evening.

Also who has done the close focus mod? I am thinking about doing this. 1m became very limiting indoors for me last night. So much so I couldn't even take a few pictures I wanted at dinner. That would be my only complaint about this gem.

@yukosteel did the close focus mod on Fred's reissue and on my v2. It's the only thing making me second guess selling my v2. It's such a useful feature!

Congrats
I emailed the Leica location Fred suggested in order to get the new slimmer hood. That was done over 3 weeks ago with no response. Are they overwhelmed ? Just a return receipt saying it is in progress or whatever would go a long way toward customer satisfaction.
I guess Leica does not care about customers who lay out hard earned funds for lenses with inferior lens hoods.

Update on new hood.
No short hood replacement yet for SR reissue. I was informed today they ran out of new hoods and once back in stock I will get one. No time frame mentioned.

This lens has legitimately became my #1 we are going to do stupid stuff/have a good time lens. Size, weight and the look to the images is all perfect IMO. Stupid family stuff but the character of the lens just adds a good vibe.

I hope it won't take long for Leica to release another batch. They probably sold a lot of SR lenses since its introduction.
I discovered that when you insert a 43mm filter upside down inside the lens, it fits perfectly, acting like a drop-in filter. Even though the lens normally takes a 46mm filter, using a 43mm one allows you to attach the OLLUX hood without any problems and keeps the setup stable, meaning the filter does not move inside. I believe using a 43mm filter shouldn't scratch the lens since there's no force involved and it stays in place, but it might depend on the type of UV filter you use. I've tried it with a B+W nano slim UV filter and it worked fine. I haven't tested it with ND filters yet.
So, now you can use UV filters with the reissued 35/1.4 Steel Rim lens along with both hoods.

Rendering comparison between the Leica 35/1.4 Summilux Steel Rim, Voigtlander 35/1.4 II SC, LLL 35/2 8-Element, and MS Optics 36/1.3 Apollon:
I would say, in a blind test, most people would probably prefer the rendering of the Nokton. It has that film like vintage glow and charm without beating you over the head with it.

I’ve heard this complaint from other people. Last I read sent it back and when it came back from service it still had a wobbly aperture ring but “not as bad” he said.
The V5 Cron is the best no nonsense every day lens Leica produces. Priced very well also.
I so love the Summicron 50 v5 I believe both my lenses will be Summicrons eventually. I will just trade the Nokton and get a new 11673 since the vintage ones are priced so ridiculously.

My Leica M10-R Black Paint camera doesn't seem to identify the reissued Leica 35mm f/1.4 Lux Steel Rim lens. I've already updated the camera's software to version 30.22.23.34 and tried resetting the camera. I also cleaned the connections on both the camera and the lens. However, when I attach the lens, it always goes into "Manual M" mode. Interestingly, the "Auto" lens detection works perfectly with other 6-bit coded lenses.
Does anyone has any suggestions for fixing this problem? The same lens is correctly identified when I use my M10-R Black Chrome camera with the same firmware.

That is strange. My m10r black paint recognized the steel rim reissue no problem.
