Congratulations on your new lens! To be honest, with the availability of the reissued steel rim version, I don't think it's necessary to acquire the vintage pre-aspherical V2 lens, unless you happen to already have an optical copy with flawless glass. If you're a fan of the pre-aspherical look, you'll definitely appreciate the reissued SR lens. The hood situation is a minor issue but I don't even use it with a hood.
I still like the v2. But the reissue is certainly more ready to go and probably the smarter choice for anyone who is looking to buy either the v2 or the reissue.
I ended up with two (a Canadian and a German) lux v2's and wouldn't you know it both needed a CLA. Got the first one back a few days ago and I have to send it right back to DAG now for focus ring adjustment as it's very stiff.
Starting over, I might have just kept the reissue. I'm sure it'll all work itself out, and I'll love it when it's done. But it sure is a hassle.

Absolutely! The Leica 35/1.4 Lux "pre-asph" lens is truly exceptional. If you happen to find a version with flawless glass and a recent CLA (cleaning, lubrication, and adjustment), it's an excellent choice. The newly re-issued Steel Rim version follows the same optical formula but offers a slight increase in contrast thanks to its more modern coating. Despite this, it maintains a very similar aesthetic.

I've just received a tracking number for the updated design of the Leica 35/1.4 Steel Rim's hood!
I'm really curious to see what it looks like.
Wow can’t wait! Can you confirm this is from Wetzlar? I’d like to get my name on the list too as an owner.

It is likely that it was developed and dispatched from Wetzar. The shipment is originating from NJ and is expected to arrive on Friday. Once I receive it, I will take a picture of the new hood and post it here.

I am very very curious about what aesthetic direction they take with this new hood. Please keep us updated.

With my just-purchased 2022 Steel Rim lens en route from NJ, I am wondering which hood(s) will be arriving, with it. Delivery is scheduled for tomorrow.

I just got a shipping notice as well. Leica did a great job following through with this IMO. Now let’s just hope the hood isn’t hideous!! 😀
I really hope that the camera still retains the "Leica Wetzar Germany" inscription on it, rather than just having a plain metal black hood. Ideally, it would have been great if they had designed a detachable hood that allows for the filter to be placed inside, similar to the functionality of the 12504 model.

It’s actually funny I looked at other photos from the other forum and I’m not sure there’s any difference at all. Could someone put them side by side and confirm they are the same? There actually has been precedent where Leica sent the same OLLUX hood a few months ago by mistake to the people on the waiting list for a new hood.

I haven't tried using the new hood with a filter to see if there's any hard vignetting, but I agree with you. When I compared the two versions directly, I couldn't see any difference in the design! If this actually works, I'm not sure how it does.

Pretty Sure it hasn't fixed the problem...
I just tried with On my M11 with A Leica silver UV2 filter. Will post images shortly.

They are numbered the same as well aren't they?
Very odd
Indeed, they are numbered the same. I'm uncertain about what exactly Leica did. It seems they provided the exact same hood as a redesign. I can't discern any noticeable differences between them; they appear to be identical. I used a caliper to measure all the section of the 'new' hood, and now I will proceed to test for vignetting. However, I must admit, I don't hold much hope that anything will change.
