I don't do portraits much. I have no real training or experience doing them. But, as some of you may know I recently suffered an accident that has kept me mostly bedridden and immobile for the last couple of Months. I haven't been able to take any images during this time. I have missed that a great deal.
This past Sundy my oldest Son brought his family down from Montana for a visit. That alone was a great spirit lifter. While here Grandma and my 9 year old Grandaughter decided to play dressup and put on a little fashion show for me. I decided to try a portrait of her.
Confined as I am I had pretty much no choice in where to take the portrait. I was able to position myself and a walker near a large window in our living room. Not an ideal background or lighting for sure. The room is actually has very low light. I positioned her to be lit from the side by the window.
I took the portrait with my Leica M10-P and my Leica 50mm f/2 Summicron ASPH v5 wide open at F/2.0. Naturally everything is done manually with a Leica M camera.
Below is the image I captured. Taking the portrait and spending time with my Son and his family was the most uplifting experience I have had since the accident. So nice to be able to play a bit at photography as well.
Anyway, I thought I would share the portrait here in this thread. I hope some of you enjoy it.
Hello Steve ..... that looks like a handmade sweater, my mother and grandmother were knitters
Lovely image, natural and beautiful and great use of the available light. You made the best of this challenge, now just keep it up and keep overcoming your challenges ....... wishing you a productive recovery
Oh and to keep it honest, might be a little tight on the top, so you best be planning your next shots

I do enjoy it - she is quite lovely. I hope you heal rapidly and get back on your feet sooner than you expect!!
Godspeed and best wishes.

Thanks Bill your encouragement is very much appreciated.
I still need one more surgery on my left leg once the right leg has recovered from its surgery. 4 to 6 more Months to go. But the prognosis for good mobility is excellent.

I think my Wife bought that sweater in Europe somewhere.
Thanks for the positive wishes they do help.
I will keep an eye on appropriate fit in the coming years.
Steve, great capture and excellent use of available light. I never do portraits as I feel that it’s super hard. So May variables to deal with🙄. Get well soon 👍🏻
This is a lovely portrait. I would have never guessed she's just 9! My granddaughter, the only girl out of 6 grandchildren is now 11. They grow up so fast!
Here's hoping for continued recovery. I'm glad your family is a blessing.

Thanks for the well wishes. Yes, portraits are a challenge but something I do enjoy when the chance to do them arises.

Voted.
Your supportive comments and the vote are most appreciated!
She looks much older in this portrait I agree. But take off the dress up, grandma's splash of makeup and let smile wide and she is a typical gangly 9 year old with a mouth full of braces, and the curviest part of her is her boney knees. She looks nine then, and I really love that look on her.
I really didn't expect such a thing when I posted. I want to thank everyone in this wonderful community for their expressions of support. It is meaningful to me.
The window light is gorgeous. It's been my favorite light source through my whole career in photography. Your granddaughter is a lovely girl and her relaxed pose is just perfect. She'll treasure this image, I'm sure.
My best wishes to you for a full recovery.
Cheers,
Brent
