p.2 #1 · Alien Cloud - Florida

WoW!!! Your work continually amazes me, Mark! If I didn't know you better, I would think this scene was created through Photoshop manipulation. Your work celebrates the wonder of Nature and lifts the spirit! Thank you for your passion and dedication to this artistic craft of Landscape Photography!

Best regards, David

Thank you very much David! I appreciate the encouragement. This even looks like a photoshop manipulation to me, and I took it! I’ll put out the video on my youtube page so people can see how I took it. It was just insane. Helped to be living on the beach! I was literally in a conversation with my dad at the time, and told him I had to go! Then hung up and sprinted down to the beach with all my gear. I used my iPhone for video and my camera for both video and photos. This will be a long memorable shoot!

That is amazing!!!
One of the two things I fear is a lighting storm, I'd never dare to do what you did ... knowing me, I'd be turn into fried chicken in 3 seconds ...
I love the contrast of colors, exceptional !

. Lightning is terrifying and should be for anyone. I still play with it, but not when it is going directly over me! Like here when the storms are from a ways away, but then stray out into the ocean in front of me I don't mind it as much. But there is, and should always be, a healthy dose of fear anyway. Lightning can break all the rules! Being knocked out one time by it, has me taking more precautions these days.

Amazing catch the moment and well presented it masterfully

Thanks man! This was really a moment. Fortunately I shoot waves so much I could think through an approach in a hurry. This was one of the first batch of frames before the weird cloud changed a lot. Also my lightning triggers and both broken (years of abuse) so I had to improvise with back to back shutter clicks…

Great work Mark. You are a brave man!

Thank you. I think it might be that my cheese has slid off my cracker, and that my taco is at least an olive shy.

I love the composition and components of your image. Wonder how it would look in Black & White?

Thank you for the suggestion. I’ll try it! All the best!

Hi Ken,

Please refer to Fred Miranda’s Landscape Posting Guidelines available as a link at top left of page - the applicable one in this case is, "No editing or processing of other users photographs without their direct permission.”

I agree here, but also appreciate the suggestion from Ken. No harm, no foul, for me. I should probably be more sensitive to this, especially due to doing landscape as my livelihood (in a variety of capacities). Life is to short though…

This is why I don't take landscape pics.

I'm all like 'look at flower and a twig pic'.

While Mark is all like - waves crushing in with dramatic lighting, storm clouds and massive lightning strikes on the horizon boiiiiiiii!

And then I Iook at my flower and twig pic again and realize it definitely needs more cowbell.

. No, we all know beauty is found nearly everywhere. I usually love the simple stuff more actually.

One of the best weather photo I've seen in a while. Landscape, weather and the proper lightning and cloud.

Thank you Seny! Yeah, that IS a weather photo! Thank you for pointing that out to me. I should have posted it to the local news.

The juxtaposition of smooth and sharp in this image is astonishing. The movement in the water, the frozen rock and the brilliant lightening just create this visual show stopper. Amazing Mark.

Thank you Dakel. I just ran from my 6th story condo, down and out to the beach, trying to not totally panic, then VERY fortunately there was a great foreground interest with the water at just the right height. I put my iPhone on a rock at 13mm and 60fps and the ran out and got to work. All improv as fast as I could. The great thing was that the lightning was striking over and over like crazy. So I knew I had a very high chance of getting it all in a single shot. I’ll post some more from the shoot, but I got tons of lightning. And it did not rain!

All the best!

Incredible shot! The water makes this look very dreamy, and contrasts well with the rest of the image. Very nice!
