Has anyone ever ordered from Amazon's refurbished area? I have seen a few of these 800mm 6.3's show up every once in awhile from sellers with a lot of ratings, but I'm a bit unsure of the refurbished part. (Seeing as this lens is very hard to find!)

Personally I'd steer clear of anything 'amazon refurbished'. Especially in case of an expensive lens. They pop up for sale here in B&S section quite regularly.

Hmmm, that's concerning. This one is through 6ave, not sure how reputable they are?

My Z8 arrived today. Took it out for a short spin in the afternoon. 1st thought - I'm glad Z8 is not smaller because it wouldn't be comfortable to hold with larger lenses. My guess is that if I ever spring for 400 or 600TC (that's highly unlikely for years to come) it would need to be paired with a gripped body. The Z8 definitely feels less 'solid' than Z9. It's supposed to though.

Finally got my paws one of these beauties, and took it for a quick spin at Fernhill Wetlands in Forest Grove, OR. My first time posting photos on FM, my apologies if I'm doing this incorrectly!
(Had to reupload this one, one of my masks went wonky!)

Still learning this lens. It is quite the handful. So sharp (I don't understand some of the reviews and commentary that assert otherwise) and it is liberating to be able to fill the frame without getting too close to sensitive subjects. The MFD is actually rather short when one considers the magnification - I find myself retreating backwards, not to get subjects in focus but to prevent cropping of subjects. It is a great privilege to own and use this unique instrument.

์Just heard back from Nikon regarding my 800PF. They asked me to send back Z9 for them to check as well. As it turns out, the lens is perfectly fine but somehow
between traveling from South America back to Bangkok and traveled from Bangkok on an hour flight, my Z9 sensor became misaligned. I also asked Nikon to take care of my vertical grip lock ring that became very stiff and replaced sensor curtain that gave me some problem. So my Z9 will be out of commission for a few weeks but at least now there is Z8 that I can use in the mean time.

You're doing great and really nice job on these! Congratulations on the 800pf it's a great lens
Thank you so much George! It's my first big prime, so it's quite a learning curve, but the way this lens has been designed makes it quite easy to use, very surprising!
