Hello everyone,
I apologize if this has been discussed before. I would like to ask whether the rubber ring on the second ring from the front (the ring with 4 fn buttons) of your Z 800 lens feels stickier than the other rubber rings on the lens?
I noticed that there are more dust and fabric lints sticking to that particular rubber position compared to the other rubber parts. And it also feels different than the other rubbers when touched with my fingers.
So jealous of you BC folk, it seems like wildlife falls from the sky (literally) and into your lap.
Super work with the otter... the hooded merg reflection is a true beauty.

Right? BC shooters have it good, makes bird photography look easy when there's plentiful subjects to shoot whenever you want BC is definitely on my birding wish list!

For sure, nobody is pushing back against the enthusiasm for this lens. I just noticed this video of Hudson Henry's love for the lens. And what is that little quick-release head he now has?

The summer months are more 'dead' here but indeed - pretty lucky to live in a big city and have wildlife opportunities within a relatively short drive.

I promise I'm done with bluebirds for now (they're leaving soon either way). Found a hummingbird's nest too. This lens is really well suited for subjects like this.

I found this place back in March of 2022 looking for some Sandhill Cranes in this area where some people had got images of. This year there are a ton of Eagles there. I counted 32 this afternoon. I have a lot of images but just going to post a few for now.

After some prospecting last year looking for tome Sandhill Cranes I found this little cove but never saw Eagles. That's because you need to be there early morning or late afternoon and then they come out for the photo shoots!
A few others from this place.

Blue sky and the snow is melting
A pair of kingfishers were in a courtship flight... they are fast buggers and tough to catch with an 800mm FOV.
This is probably the best belted kingfisher I've managed to photograph to date... not spectacular, but a start.

Speaking of weather, it is your time now!
And that *is* an uncommon shot Bruce. Nice capture!
Coincidental to your post, I happen to pass by a Belted KF with my canoe yesterday and got my first shot ever of a BKF. It is not as good as your's but pretty good.
Several days ago I snapped a screen shot of Stillwater MN weather 10 days out in Underground Weather. Started to prepare a post to you that your temps were forecast much warmer and warmer than southern Maine coast....... warm enough to melt all of that wet 8+" you just had... quickly. Same thing happened here; just after our last real storm (8" of wet snow) everything melted rather quickly.
At that time, I got a little more inquisitive and adventuresome . I looked at the flyways and decided to say to you something like this.... "What are complaining about? You're in the Central Flyway and potentially get all of Texas's, NM's and Central America's migratory birds passing over there on the way to their nesting range. Then I discovered that MN was a few states east of where I thought it was .
However, don't you get a lot of migratory birds headed north this time of year?
Below you on the Miss, USFWS covers the Miss with refuges, but northern MN has few. Wonder why?

Thanks for your update Robert...
Yes, you are correct about my location. Stillwater MN is on the St. Croix River and we are blessed with a vigorous bird migration. While I am not a bird specialist, we have no shortage of migratory species and as my many years of posts demonstrate, I do quite a bit of photography within a 15 mile radius of my home. Between yesterday and today I photographed hooded mergansers, common mergansers, golden eye, bufflehead, loon, great blue heron, trumpeter swan, canada goose, sandhill crane, kingfisher, and a warbler I have yet to identify.
I, however, am very selective about what I choose to share. I lean towards the artistic side of nature photography and like to show images that are more than natural history pictures. While I'm all for documenting what I see, I prefer to show fewer pictures that might push the creative button... sometimes I succeed... sometimes I don't.
BTW... the river only had one chunk of ice this morning... a huge change from Friday where deer tracks were still visible in the ice flows.
