Wow... what a beautiful bird. Your first two photos show how stunning this species can be... very nice work!
In the US we get excited by a hint of red or yellow on a passerine, you've got the full color palette in one specimen... only the painted bunting can offer us such variety in one animal. It is hard not to envy the cornucopia of bird variety and color available to you in Australia.

So this will serve as a direct contrast to the splendor of color shared by Lance...
I am continuing to photograph the stark nature of winter with the 800PF. This project has been the perfect learning experience as I have shot from the car, handheld, on my stomach, and with a tripod. Most importantly, I am getting better at finding my subject through that narrow field of view... this is a real challenge when shooting w/ DX crop. I have yet to try out firmware v3.10, but with it now installed on my Z9, I'll see how it performs today... assuming I can find something to photograph.
Nothing flashing or exciting... though I do happen to like the crow during the brief snow burst.
regards,
bruce

They came out great and so glad that you’re getting the feel of the lens now, it just gets better from here! I’ve said It before the Z9 and 800pf is like the D500 and 500pf on steroids!

Thanks George...
I am really looking forward to some warmer weather where I can photograph more subjects in some sweet morning light. Your description is apt, as the D500 w/ 500PF was brilliant, but the capacity to crop was fairly limited... with the Z9, I am comfortable shooting in FX and DX mode... this has allowed me to photograph my subjects uniquely different ways.

Went to Bombay Hook on Sunday. Quite a bit of heat haze.shimmer after 10am. Got these Northern Shovelers in the early morning before the shimmer appeared.

Loving #3 and #7 Eric, the colors and textures are fantastic!

I know it’s a common bird in so many places but I am always enthralled when I see a great blue heron spread those huge wings and take flight, it looks almost prehistoric. I liked the b&w version on this best. Taken with the lowly Z7II

I'm kind of surprised how often these pop up used considering nobody ever has them in stock. This thread makes it hard not to want one. Then again most of the posters on this thread take great photos regardless of lens.

Most people that are selling these 800PF lenses are 1 of 2 types. One that bought one before the 600f4 TC was announced and are going with that lens, selling the 800 to recoup money. The other are people buying to resell for profit. Anyone that ordered an 800pf in July or after, has a minimum 18 month wait per a Northeast Nikon rep I spoke with back then.
There are a couple on FM here that buy to resell but lie about it and attack you through DM's. You'll know who they are if you feel with them

Congrats on the pending sale of your friend's 800PF at $7800, that's a nice profit! Is he/she a reseller, or upgrading to the Z 600/4?

I'm selling for a friend who's upgrading to the 600f4 TC since he has no feedback on FM
I reached the 1st anniversary of this bird photography adventure recently and realized that my flickr album with bird photos grew to ~1200 images. Just finished deleting half of them, because in retrospect they weren't that great. Purge!
