Great shots, what time of day was this?
Midday to sunset. The best shadows are around a half an hour before sunset time. The shadows will get bigger/elongated and they change dramatically the way these dunes look. This location is NOT GOOD for sunrise as it is surrounded but he mountain range blocking the raising sun, until some time in the noon. So late midday and sunset is the best time, actually.
Gorgeous compositions. Reminds me of the dunes outside Hanksville, Utah which had a similar experience of the vehicle getting stuck in deep sand. Seeing these photos makes me think of the movie Dune. They look like little mountains.
Hot dog Gregg! You are single handedly inspiring me to get back to the dunes when I am out in death valley in about a week or so. Not to this exact spot of course, that trip in sounded deathly (ha).
Outstanding work, I love the way you shot and processed these.

Thanks Daniel. This weekend Furnace Creek seems to be a good spot to go to. I see some serious wind coming, and at sunset time! Go to Mesquite Dunes and shoot away. Should be nice, dusty (protect your gear), but all those foot prints should also be cleared out. Saturday looks like a good day to be there!
Amazing!! But that hurts seeing these photos...Why? Because my son in law invited me to go next week to Death Valley for a weekend camping trip. Can't go due to life issues...Maybe in the near future...

Oh awesome thanks for the tips! I can't be there until a week from tuesday sadly, but hopefully some more nice storms rollll on innn. I was planning on hitting Mesquite for at least one sunrise or set, and then milky way at some mud cracks and badwater as well.
Great play on light and 'lights' and shadow and subtle texture ripples as well as layering. You took great advantage of basics and built them into great images, nicely done on all.

Stunning shots. Love the long lens compression. If this is the field dunes I think it is (one of the very few in DV without much visitation), I’m surprised that you had trouble getting out there. I was there myself a few weeks ago and had no trouble on the road in my stock Subaru.
