Ashley is a server and singer at a Winery I visited this afternoon. She kindly allowed me to take a quick natural light portrait of her with my new to me Leica I am trying to learn to shoot.
Great use of light and depth of field. I think the composition could benefit from a more symmetrical crop though, making the distance from the side of her head to the edge of the frame equal on both sides of the image instead of having her head off-center. I know some folks live and die by the rule of thirds, but it doesn't work for every portrait in my opinion.
Ok guys it seems like a unanimous preference to see it centered. So, here is a 4X5 centered crop. It does look great this way. thanks for the suggestions. They are always appreciated.
If the wine was as elegant as the server I'd say you had one rewarding visit to this winery. A wonderful casual portrait, centered looks excellent and she has the look of someone very welcoming and friendly, you both did good here.

Thanks Karl. It is a small winery in the fledging wine area of Ramona. So, the wine was nothing special, but decent.

She's beautiful! I have to say, I'm not a fan of the crop, head and arms chopped off.
Thanks Robert. I appreciate your suggestion on the crop.
I see you are from Bradford, Ill. My Father grew up on a farm there. His Father lived there until his death, then the farm was sold. When I was young my Dad got a weekly newspaper from Bradford. I can't remember the paper's name, but its tag line "the hottest news from the coldest town in America" is memorable. The family name is Cahill.
