From a casual glance at this thread, I was hooked and read to Page 8. The comparison between Noctilux f0.95 against Nokton f1.0 convinced me and I just ordered the Nokton from my favourite dealer. There may soon be a Noctilux for sale

Thanks! Before the recent SL2/SL2-S firmware update, I was choosing the same M lens profile for the CV 50 f/1 that I did on the M11: the Leica f/1 Noctilux. After the firmware update that just came out, I can now also choose the generic "50mm". Either way, IBIS works as long as the camera knows the focal length. Each way has a benefit. With the Leica profile, the image in Live View has reduced vignetting from the Leica profile correction, so metering is more accurate when shooting at wider apertures. Or by just selecting "50mm", I can see the as-is performance of the lens in Live View, which is helpful for envisioning the artistic potential of the vignetting when shooting at f/1. ...Show more →
Sorry to be off topic but I own a SL2s and had no idea they added generic focal lengths, how did you access that?
Edit: Just saw the firmware update, thankfully they finally added this!
For reference, regarding the reverse / outward field curvature, here's a dreadful example with the Noctilux-M 50mm f/0.95 (posted at L-camera-forum.com) :

I like it it's unique feature, I still have mine but will glue it to the monochrom or adapt gfx, I didn't like it too much on the m10r for some reason
Perhaps your copy was not well calibrated with the rangefinder?
Wondering if Cosina will make available the Sony FE version. Even with lower prices of the Canon EF 50mm 1.0L, it’s still more expensive and being quite old lenses God knows if the AF motor will last, after which not even MF would work.

No idea but since Cosina have a strong preference to 50mm and 35mm lens releases over other focal lengths, I think the 50/1 remains a possible candidate for a future Cosina release in E-mount (as well as Z-mount). It would be a statement lens in those mounts too and might sell reasonably well. I'm also expecting some additional APO-Lanthars.
They just announced Nikon Z-mount 40/1.2 (FF) and 35/2 APO (APS-C) yesterday for October release. It's been a while since they had a new E-mount lens release (2021 April) and even VM releases seem to be on a break since end of March this year when 40/2.8 Heliar VM was released. They've only been pushing out more X-mount and Z-mount glass in the last 6 months. Curious to see what will be the next one in E-mount and VM as well.
Had intended to buy the Syoptic 50/1.1, but getting unexpected money combined with reading about issues some people have with that lens I decided to treat myself to the Voigtlander. I know it's not optimal on Sony sensors, but I love it so far. Surprisingly the FC is less bad than on the CV40/1.2E.
Some first shots (all at f/1).
A7RII and CV 50mm/1 VM.
HelenaN and others - please show more photos! I've been fantasizing about this lens since I read Fred's review, and for now, fantasizing is all I can do ...
I believe its colour performance is vibrant and very lively (tonal separation is a feature), and it is demonstrated in Fred's comparos with the Voigtlander 50/1.2, itself no slouch. The SA and contrast advantage is very real - see links here:
Given the apparent success of this lens for Voigtlander, I hope they next set their sites on the a cheaper alternative to the Leica 75mm Noctilux 1.25. Even though I probably would not replace my Voigtlander 75mm 1.5 with it, it would great to see alternative.
All of a sudden, over at the Leica forum, there is a Nokton f/1 user who said that he thinks the reverse / outward field curvature is mild. I referred him to the tests that Fred Miranda shared in this thread, but then he posted his own FC tests that look like this:
To me, this suggests that there is sample variation at play, and that some lucky buyers may get a lens without the quite noticeable outward field curvature we have seen in images from many users.

Fred, what do you think?
That's a pretty close focus example. Fred's tests are all at longer distances, so the results could be different.
