Mike and his wife Tami were two of the first friends I made in the photography community when I got my first camera 12 years ago. Always very supportive and helpful, and they have always treated me like family. Unfortunately Mike passed away last year, and it hit the photography community in my area pretty hard. He was one of the kindest and funniest people I have ever met. This was a portrait I took of him a couple years back when he was helping me with reflector duty during a photo shoot. The lighting was too perfect to pass up the opportunity, and I'm glad I got a portrait like this to remember him by.
Photographed in natural light using an original Canon 5D with a Canon 85mm f/1.8 lens.

Yes, he is in a far better place Daniel!
That 5D takes a fine image! Love the POV and the oof fall off! Tones are wondeful!

Thanks Dan. Yes it's an excellent camera. Sadly mine is starting to show signs that it's near the end of it's lifespan. I sure have loved it and put it through a lot over the last 12 years.
One of those "old" 5Ds and an 85 1.8 will hold its own at a portrait session against any modern camera and lens you throw at it. I had that combo and have many great photos from it.

This is a wonderful portrait indeed. Sounds like the world is not as good of a place as it was while he was in it. So sorry that you lost your friend.
Thank you. The world was definitely a better place with him in it.

I agree, it's an excellent combo. It's great with my 50mm f/1.4 and 100mm f/2.8 as well.
