Hi all, my first post. I've been considering joing for a while now but never considered myself to be able to acheive the standard here, as it's very high. I've taken the plunge now though.
I'm a Canon shooter but I have no alliegance to any brand, I just happen to be invested in Canon lenses. I use a 5Div and an M5, with various L lenses ranging from 17mm to 400mm, including a couple of primes. I also have a Sigma for the 600mm that offers.
I'm here to learn and also, if possible help too. Please don't be shy, C+C doesn't offend me. It's how we learn.
The image is taken on a Scottish hillside, about 10 minutes drive from home (Ayrshire). It's my favourite set of trees and when conditions allow, I will return to explore other possibilities there.
Welcome to FM! Really nice image, love how you've left a good amount of negative space around this nice grouping of trees and I'm a big fan of the atmosphere and mood imparted by the falling snow.
Hi Dale, glad you posted, this is a lovely and peaceful image, effectively processed to suit the mood, and those two trees left and right leaning inward adds poetry.
Do you print at home? If so try Canson Infinity Rag Photographique on this, it’s one of the best fine art matte papers in the world, smooth surface, nicely weighted in hand, and quite white considering no OBA’s. It’s my favorite when I don’t want paper texture interfering with smooth areas like sky or snow.
I rarely, if ever print at home, although it is something I would like to look into as I feel it's nice to have something tangible in your hands. I usually contract any prints out these days.
Welcome Dale. I like the image. A couple of things that if it were mine i'd play with to see what sticks:
-negative space is nice, but maybe shift up or down so that sky+snowy foreground are not exactly the same.
-same for right/left. I don't know if you cropped this or not though.
-i'd be more inclined to PP it as a high(er)-key image; then it'll match the wintery mood. This is very easy to try, raise the blacks/shadows.
it's all subjective though, so there is no right or wrong.
