I had my first ever R5 lockup with the new firmware for what it's worth. I'm not rolling back, I don't see any huge differences in AF accuracy and the lockups were definitely there with the old firmware too for people.
Users on FW 1.5 please advise on your settings , particularly regarding Human Eye AF in Case #2. I prefer the accuracy i had rather than any potential speed gains on erratic and fast moving human subjects.

It seems that after installing the newer firmware the AF settings need to be tweaked a bit, rather than just keeping the same settings from 1.4.0.
Looks like there are people who just ran with the old settings and got convinced that 1.5.0 is broken or something.
I tweaked mine slightly and now it’s better - especially noticeable with eye AF.

Ill have to get back to you, but for stills shooting one setting that helped keep the focus from jumping around is to change Switched Tracked Subjects to 0, rather than 1 or 2, as I had it in 1.4.0.
That is my experience and for just a few. Most seem to have no problems.
Canon UK have told me that a roll back cannot be done on the R5 or R6.Yet some people have managed it.
I have not and I have tried many methods

I moved the .fir file out, and EOS Utility did copy it over to the camera. Unfortunately instead of doing the update it fails. I know the file is good, because after it is copied over to the memory card the camera firmware updater sees the file and firmware version but will not allow the update to be completed.
Moving the file out of the compressed folder to your destination is what I was warning you of. It sometimes needs to be "Extracted", as in unzipped. When I simply move the 1.5.0 file out of the compressed folder and tried to install it, I got a couple of seconds in to the update before it failed, twice. It wasn't until I "Extracted" the file from the compressed folder where it actually worked.
I have succeeded in rolling back firmware 1.5 to fw 1.4 on my R5 after watching this YouTube video.
The YouTube author, KH Cams, describes 2 methods of achieving rollback, but if you look to the bottom of the comments section, a post by Mats Wolw Jönsson describes a hybrid method that worked for me.
Why did I roll back the camera's firmware?
I found that with fw 1.5 and focus method set to "face+tracking" (smiling face and square) I had to fight the camera on sticking to my chosen focus point (which wasn't necessarily a face) and the camera's focus point kept jumping to other arbitrary points in the frame. With fw 1.4 the camera just sticks to my chosen focus area.
Na
So I understand…You loaded 1.5 on a SD card, and started the firmware update process. You simultaneously clicked OK and released the battery door. You took out the SD card, and replaced the 1.5 file with the 1.4 file without reformatting the card. You then put in the card with the 1.4 and closed the door.

I have not had issues so far since updating to ver 1.50 but both methods failed on my R5.With SD Card method I was only offered to erase ver 1.4 loaded on the card, EOS utility only offered ver 1.50. Spoke with Canon support tech who claimed there was no way to roll back firmware but also claimed he knew nothing about issues created by this update
Use the method above. Opening the battery door, and inserting the 1.4 fir works. I just rolled my R5 from 1.5 to 1.4.

Not like that with me. I reset the whole camera after 1.5, twice. Now I am back to 1.4 and the R5 does what I did it before 1.5. More sticky less jumping about
I reverted using the two card trick, just swapped cards, left the battery alone.
I still have focus problems with it. Back to Canon for that
1) Worse AF accuracy
It's not uncommon that it displays eye AF on the perched bird eye, and all of the sequence (more than 10) are terrible blurry.
This had never happened on 1.4.0.
2) AF hunting
Camera keep hunting even the subject is big in EVF. You can see it there from EVF, R5 just can't get focused. Hunting like drunk.
1.4.0 is much less.
3) Stupid AF switching/jumping.
However I set it, it Keep switching to something else. It's very difficult to track and trace a BIF as far as 1.4.0 does. If often shifts the focus on the sitting bird other than the flying bird if they are close even you started with the flying one.
4) AF is lagging behind the scenes. An eye AF on place of somewhere else where it was the eye location on previous frame.
This never happened on 1.4.0

That's how it is with every firmware update. Most folks who upgrade and have no problems don't post anything. The folks that upgrade and have a problem post often, looking for help obviously. Makes the problem rate seem higher than it really is, and is just a phenomenon of the internet.
If you don't have a real reason to upgrade, it can wait. Seems like you don't shoot a lot of cars, which is one of the primary upgrades in this firmware. So might be worth taking the 'if it ain't broke...don't fix it" approach.
I just purchased a new r6 and it worked great until I updated the firmware to 1.5.0. Camera froze several times within a 5 minute span. Should have left it alone! I have since spoken to another shooter who said he as well as three others experienced the same problem. I guess it is not such a isolated issue.

Zero lock ups with 1.5.0 on my R6 so far. Not that they don't happen, just that people with no problems don't post about it.
I updated my firmware to 1.5 on my older R5 and purchased a new one with firmware 1.5 and had numerous lockups the last 2 weeks in Yellowstone. Shooting in cold conditions near or below zero lots of the time. Had lockups on both cameras using the EF600mmF4mk3 and the RF100-500. Didn't seem to matter which lens. The images would just freeze in the frame as if I was reviewing the photo in my EVF. If I pressed the shutter a few times it would reset but the process took 5 or 10 seconds and cost me some good photo opps. Never had a lock up with the older R5 before.. Very frustrating
