Does anyone know if B&H has a policy to charge a customer if an item is not in stock? I ordered a small telescope from B&H on Dec 5th, as it was in stock. Delivery is scheduled for today. I noticed yesterday that the telescope I ordered is not in stock, but it says, More On The Way. I spoke with a representative (Alex R) who assured me my telescope was in stock and would be delivered today. There is still no update regarding the item is out for delivery, however, the money was deducted from my bank account. Thanks,
Jim.
If you paid via PaPal, it's deducted immediately. Otherwise, if B&H has created a shipping label, they considered it shipped and ding your account.
FedEx tracking has become abominable. Often it appears to sit on B&H docks for a day or so without showing in their tracking info. Then all of a sudden I get a message saying it's out for delivery...

After getting the runaround twice, I received an email this morning stating that the telescope was in fact, on back order. I cancelled the order.
With the B&H order number I'd know more. Our policy on charging a customer is on our site at https://www.bhphotovideo.com/find/HelpCenter/Payments.jsp. For credit cards:
Credit Card
Customers with USA billing addresses will not be charged until the order is processed for shipping. However, a credit card authorization hold occurs at the time the order is placed. Credit card customers with non-USA billing addresses will be charged in full at the time of purchase.
Mobile eWallet App, PayPal & PayPal Credit
We accept payment via Apple Pay, PayPal & PayPal credit. We also accept payment via Google Pay on Android devices and apps only. Payments processed using such apps will be charged immediately (as opposed to when your order ships).
Hi Henry. Thanks for your response. It is a USA billing address, bank debit card. What irritated me was the 2nd individual that I spoke with, confirmed the telescope was definitely in the warehouse, and he was going to find out why it was taking so long. This was yesterday afternoon. I received an email this morning stating that my order was now backordered.
There appears to have been a miscount resulting in inaccurate inventory for the item you ordered. I regret this and apologize. If you reorder using a credit or debit card, you will not be charged until we ship the ordered item.
More often than not, problems/concerns with any B&H order or question, email Henry.
He is quick to respond...EMAILs ONLY for faster replies!
Glad yu got it worked out Jim!

Folks, I would like to keep this thread going for 1 more day. Reason being, I reordered the same Mak 90mm scope, on Saturday afternoon, at 5:45, when BH reopened for business. I also deleted the free gift since I already have one, and I really don't need 2 of them (2 color flashlight thingy) Anyway, I checked the mail before, and somehow, the the free gift was sitting in my doorway. Even though I deleted it, it was delivered. There is no email update that it was processed, just order placed. Still showing a delivery date of 12/14 for the scope itself. I'll see what happens, but if I get an update that the scope is not in stock, I will be taking my business elsewhere...

I am sorry for any confusion. I will send relevant screenshots via email.
Jim,
I had this "gift" also in a recent order.
Actually I love it!
The red saves my night vision when out and about and photographing at night.
It clips on my clothes and saves my hands for setting modes/features.
I would gladly pay you for the extra one. I could use it as a caregiver now. Saves crashing into furniture and such without turning the house lights on full blast.

Dan, pm me your address, and I'll send it to you, no charge

Wow, that's terrible. I would NEVER purchasing anything directly from a checking account.
That's how I conduct business, after having 2 bad pay pal transactions years ago. Out of 68 Great Feed Back, 64 have been by check/money order, and 4 have been f-t-f.

Well I never use paypal, but I certainly use credit cards. Using a debit card exposes your cash balances to dangers that are not easily reversed. A credit card limits your liability to all of $50 and is very easily reversed. Debit cards do NOT carry anywhere near the protection that a credit card does. My boss used his debit card for every transaction and lost all his cash balance to a card reader at a gas station. His number was stolen and so was his cash. Had he used a credit card, it would have been a trivial reversal.
And as I noted on another threat, if the Seller has a PayPal account, Seller can issue an Invoice to the Buyer and Buyer needs no PP account to Buy. Buyer simply uses a Credit card to pay the invoice. I don’t know whether or not Seller has any protection, but I certainly do if I use my Master Card. YMMV.
